UN REPORT: Experts Connect the ‘Klos C’ weapons ship to Iran

UN panel concludes that the shipment of weapons & explosives seized by the Israel Navy in March originated in Iran and was destined to Sudan, not Gaza.

A UN expert panel has concluded that a shipment of rockets and other weapons that was seized by Israel came from Iran and represents a violation of the UN arms embargo on Tehran, according to a confidential report obtained by Reuters on Friday.

The finding comes just days ahead of the next round of negotiations in Vienna between Iran and six world powers aimed at securing a deal that would gradually lift international sanctions on Tehran – including the arms embargo – in exchange for curbs on the controversial Iranian nuclear program. US & UK urge UN to probe Israeli seizure of Iranian arms ship

 

Officials at the UN reported that if Klos C arms ship did actually originate in Iran, that would have violated standing UN Security Council sanctions.

UNITED NATIONS – The United States and Britain on Thursday called for a UN investigation of Israel’s claim that it intercepted an Iranian shipment of rockets headed for the Gaza Strip.

UN officials have said that if Israel’s claims are true, Iran would be in violation of Security Council sanctions.

Capture of Iran ship’s weapons cause greater interest in Arab world than West

Netanyahu and senior military officials showcased the deadly arsenal on board seized Iranian ship, vowing to expose Iran’s true face.

While the media in the Western world showed no interest in Israel’s grand display of the weaponry sezied from the Iranian ship Klos C, and the first official American condemnation only arrived six days after the ship’s capture, it was the Arab world’s press that showed the most interest in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bid to show Iran’s real face.

In the respected New York Times, there was no mention of the event Monday, in which Netanyahu, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon and Navy

The IDF Spokesman said Sunday that operation “Full Exposure,” for intercepting Iranian arms ship Klos C, has ended. The containers aboard the ship, which was intercepted by IDF naval commandos off the coast of Sudan, have all been offloaded and their contents thoroughly examined.

Forces from the Navy, the Combat Engineering Corps and the Munitions Corps took part in offloading and inspecting the containers, following the ship’s arrival in Eilat yesterday.

 

The list of weapons that the ship carried is as follows:

  • Forty M-302 rockets, with a range of 90 to 160 km.

‘Operation Full Disclosure’

There may be an air of festivity among the defense establishment in Israel over the successful operation to seize an Iranian weapons ship. But the way back to Israel is still perilous for the troops escorting the Klos C, captured Tuesday night 1,500 km from Israel’s shores.
