Within Upcoming 2 yrs Israel’s Knesset plans to become greenest Parliament in the world

 

A $2 million plan to minimize Knesset’s ecological footprint, including it’s own solar panel field to generate its electricity, has expected savings at $430,000 per year.

 

 

Over the next two years, Israel’s Knesset compound will undergo a series of renovations, aimed at transforming it into a “green parliament.” With an unprecedented price tag of 7 million shekels ($2 million), 13 different water and electricity saving systems will be constructed for the Knesset, headlined by a solar battery that will cover 4,500 square meters on the facility’s roof.

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation approved Sunday a bill, proposed by MK Miri Regev, to annex the Jordan Valley, thereby ensuring that the region remains within Israeli sovereignty even if an agreement is reached with the Palestinians.

Canadian Prime Minister Harper to Address the Knesset

Canadian PM Stephen Harper will address the Knesset during his upcoming visit to Jerusalem in January.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will speak at the Knesset during his upcoming visit to Israel, which will begin on January 20, Shalom Toronto reported on Wednesday.

Harper will lead a delegation of some 200 people, including Canadian journalists, the report said.

During the visit, Harper will also visit Ramallah and Jordan. This is Harper’s first visit to the Middle East since he was elected as Prime Minister in 2006.

The Canadian Prime Minister announced his visit to Israel during a speech he gave at the Jewish National Fund (JNF) annual fundraising gala Negev dinner which was held in Toronto earlier this month. Continue Reading »

Deputy Speaker of Knesset Hamad Amar (Likud) has come out with a strong response to an article by MK Ahmed Tibi (Ra’am Ta’al) accusing Israel of racism.

Amar not only defended Israel’s record of providing equal rights to all its citizens, but slammed Tibi and other Israeli Arab politicians, accusing them of hurting, not helping, Israel’s Arab minority.

Knesset Committee okay bill mandating 2/3 majority for dividing Jerusalem

 

The proposal, by MK Ya’acov Litzman (UTJ), was accepted by the committee after being brought back to a vote because Justice Minister Tzipi Livni appealed its introduction last October.

 

 

A bill requiring a two-thirds majority in the Knesset for negotiations to divide Jerusalem was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation Sunday.

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved the “NGO Law” Sunday by a large margin of 8 to 4 despite opposition from Justice Minister Tzipi Livni (Hatnua). Livni said that she intends to appeal the decision. This means that the Committee will have to vote on the bill again at a later date.

An anti-leftist, anti-boycott bill which was discussed under the previous Knesset will come to the fore again Sunday, according to Maariv. The Knesset hearing will be headed by MK Ayelet Shaked (Bayit Yehudi/Jewish Home) and Robert Ilatov (Yisrael Beytenu).

Finance Committee Just Doubled Monthly Tax On Empty Apartments Brginning 1-1-2014

New monthly tax hikes unanimously approved on roughly 47,000 empty apartments.

Heavy taxation to encourage renting or selling, to help alleviate national housing crisis.

On Monday, the Finance Committee unanimously approved the application of doubled real estate tax (arnona) on empty apartments, of which there are an estimated 47,000 units.

According to the new law, an apartment will be considered empty if unused for 9 consecutive months, or 9 cumulative months in the real estate tax fiscal year, from January 1 till December 31. The new rules will come into effect starting January 1, 2014. Continue Reading »
