Iranians Say Modern New Mosque Looks Like a ‘Jewish Yarmulke’

Conservative Muslims, unable to accept the modern mosque design in Tehran, blame the Jews for the building lacking the traditional domes and minarets, accusing authorities of “treason” for approving the design.

The Jewish people were surprised to find themselves entangled in a heated debate over mosque design in Iran.

A massive new mosque being constructed in Tehran sports a sleek, minimalist design that architects say evokes the “austerity of early Islam.”

But more conservative Muslim voices have slammed the departure from the more traditional domes and minarets characteristic of mosques across the Middle East.

Embolden after Temple Mount riots, Palestinians turn up muezzin volume

 

Residents of Jerusalem suburbs claim that since the Temple Mount crisis, nearby mosques have increased the volume of their muezzin calls, especially noticeable at both four in the morning and at seven in the evening calls to prayer.

Residents of Mevasseret Zion, a suburb of Jerusalem, are complaining that, since the Temple Mount crisis, the mosques in nearby villages and in Jerusalem have increased the strength of their muezzin calls.

Most Countries Restrict Mosque Outdoor Loudspeakers, So Why Can’t Israel?

 

Saudi Arabia ruled that calls to prayer could only be amplified by a mosque’s indoor loudspeakers, and the UAE & Egypt have restricted the use of loudspeakers, but, when Israel seeks to restrict the noise level, Palestinians make it an international affair.

Quite the controversy is raging over Israel’s proposed legislation aimed at muffling the five daily Muslim calls to prayer from local mosques. In recent decades, the call of the muezzin has been amplified by multiple loudspeakers, resulting in tremendous noise pollution starting at 4:30 AM every morning.

While Jewish residents have been most vocal in complaining about the muezzin loudspeakers, local Muslims have expressed outrage over the bill, which last week gained approval from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet. Continue Reading »

Palestinian officials threaten Israel over proposed Muezzin Law

Group of Orthodox Jews Promise to Protect London Mosque

The local Shomrim group, numbering 22 Jews, was set up in 2008 in part as a reaction to anti-Semitic incidents, have agreed to include the local mosques & other buildings as part of their routine patrols.

An Orthodox Jewish patrol group in London said it would protect a mosque after a rise in hate crimes against Muslims.

The Shomrim patrol group accepted a request for protection by the North London Community Centre in Cazenove Road, an Islamic institution situated in the heavily-Jewish Borough of Hackney in northern London.
