Israel’s Olympic team has decided to respond to the BBC’s assertion that Jerusalem is not Israel’s capital, by preparing a video in which Israeli athletes are seen saying they are proud to represent Israel “and its capital Jerusalem.”

The British broadcast authority, which has often been charged with bias against Israel, has come under fire for listing “East Jerusalem” as the capital for the “Palestinian Olympic team” while leaving Israel listed without a capital.

After Israel and Jews around the world complained, the BBC partly corrected its mistake and stated that Israel’s “seat of government is Jerusalem” while still omitting Jerusalem as the capital. Continue Reading »

Olympic training camp has no security for Israeli swimmers

On the background of the Burgas terror attack and with reports in the global media claiming that security around the Israeli Olympic representatives would be increased, it has been revealed that the Israeli swimmers who have been training in the borough of Corby over the last few days did not receive a security detail.

Despite past boycotts, Iranian Olympics official Bahram Afsharzadeh insisted this week that the country’s athletes will be “faithful to sport” and not walk on competitions involving Israelis.

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas will hold moment of silence for the 11 slain Israeli athletes.

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas plans to call out the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for denying Israel’s request for a moment of silence acknowledging the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Games.

Costas intends to make his remarks as the Israeli delegation enters the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium for the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Munich massacre.

Al-Qaida is planning to crash U.S. airline during the London Olympics, reports Sunday Times.

In a Sunday Times report, a Norwegian that was trained in Yemen plans to crash a plane on a suicide mission; British authorities say there is a shortage of trained personnel to carry out security screenings.

 

The al-Qaida branch in the Arabian Peninsula is believed to be planning a terror attack during the Olympic Games in London, scheduled to begin at the end of the month. According to a report in today’s Sunday Times, quoting intelligence services, the organization has recruited a Norwegian Muslim convert who was supposed to hijack a U.S. passenger plane and crash it on a suicide mission.

BBC finnaly lists Israel’s capital as Jerusalem after receiving complaints

No capital was listed on BBC’s Israel Olympic country profile, whereas East Jerusalem was listed for Palestine.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s spokesman Mark Regev sent a letter to the Director of the BBC’s Bureau in Israel, Paul Danahar on Thursday after the BBC Sport page failed to identify Israel’s capital city as Jerusalem.

Until Wednesday afternoon, the page offering information about the Palestinian Olympic team referred to its capital as ‘East Jerusalem’, but the equivalent page for Israel made no mention of a capital city at all.

The 22-year-old woman was taken into custody on Saturday morning on suspicion of committing, preparing or instigating terrorism.

LONDON (JTA) — For the British Jewish community, the most memorable moment of the London Olympics may be a somber one.

On Aug. 6, several hundred people are expected to attend a commemoration for the 11 Israeli athletes and coaches murdered by Palestinian terrorists during the 1972 Munich Olympics.
