The Palestinians are planning to ask the UN Security Council to upgrade their status from a non-member observer state to a full member state with voting rights at the United Nations.

The Palestinian move is the latest in a diplomatic war that was sparked by US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, escalated when the Palestinians pushed for the adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution rejecting the American declaration, and recently culminated in US threats to cut funding for the Palestinian Authority and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Palestinian autocrat Abbas admits in interview statehood unlikely ‘any time soon’

Ignoring the fact that PA leadership is backed by less than 50% of his people, Abbas blamed Israel for the inability to reach independence, just after admitting that the brutal violence & chaos that characterizes Palestinian society is at fault.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas admitted on Monday that an independent Palestinian state wouldn’t be established any time soon.

He then predictably blamed Israel for that situation, just after he had all but acknowledged that the Palestinians and their chaotic, violent society were holding up the process.

PLO demands UK compensate Palestinians for Balfour Declaration

PLO official in Gaza calls on British PM Theresa May’s gov’t accept a Palestinian State as compensation for the Balfour Declaration.

Palestine Liberation Organization-Executive Committee Head and leader of Fatah’s Gaza branch Zakaria_al-Agha called on Britain to immediately recognize a Palestinian state.

During a visit to the Al-Shati “refugee camp” in northern Gaza on March 2, al-Agha emphasized the importance of the Arabs putting aside differences and joining forces to end the “occupation” in Judea and Samaria. He also said the Arabs need to fight Israel’s attempt to “Judaize” Jerusalem.

PA’s Resolution for Statehood Defeated at UN Security Council

PA’s unilateral resolution calling on Israel to “end the occupation” failed to get the needed 9 votes. Most countries abstained, including the UK.

The United Nations (UN) Security Council failed on Tuesday night to adopt a resolution on Palestinian statehood, AFP reports.

Only eight countries voted in favor of the resolution, two voted against, and there were five abstentions. The resolution needed nine votes in its favor to have passed.

France, China and Russia were among the countries that supported the text setting a 12-month deadline for negotiations on a final peace deal with Israel, reported AFP. Continue Reading »
