Dozens of Arab men held a protest Friday against the security barrier that runs between Abu Dis and Jerusalem.

As part of the protest, the men took large hammers and created a gaping hole in the wall. Several men used the hole to enter Jerusalem without going through a security checkpoint.

Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich said he was appalled by the protesters’ violence which was also directed at police officers and promised that the rioters would be punished.

UNITED NATIONS – The U.N. peacekeeping chief says armed men broke into a U.N. outpost in a buffer zone separating Israel and Syria early Wednesday and abducted three U.N military observers.
Herve Ladsous told a group of reporters Thursday that the unarmed observers were held for about five hours and released unharmed.
It was the third abduction of U.N. peacekeepers in the tense border region since March when 21 Filipino peacekeepers were held for three days by rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The Israeli-Arab city of Sakhnin is planning to name streets for two of Israel’s most famous enemies, according to MK Miri Regev (Likud Beytenu).
City officials in Sakhnin are planning to name a street for deceased Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, “a mass murderer and terrorist,” she said. A second street is to be named for Gamel Abdel Nasser, “The Egyptian President who took a hawkish stance against Israel, called to destroy it, closed the Suez Canal and began the Six Day War.” Continue Reading »

A demonstration staged by the radical Eda Haredit organization turned violent Thursday night, with haredi protestors throwing rocks, glass bottles and other objects at police, injuring at least eight officers, two of whom were taken to hospital in moderate condition.

An initiative to change the legal standing of “price tag” attacks to that of an act of terror will be brought before the cabinet next week, according to a resolution devised by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich and representatives from the police and security forces.

A “Wobbly” model revolver, used by a member of the Association of Farmers during the 1940s, was one of the finds of an operation to collect unlicensed weapons, carried out in the Northern District. Police noted that 2,000 arms were seized, some belonging to people who were no longer alive. The operation is taking place nationwide.
