From Queen of Denmark to IDF : Benjamin Schultzer, a 24-year-old Dane who at the age of 21 was recruited to the Danish army, is now serving as an IDF soldier in Hebron. At first he served with the Danish Royal Life Guard, the Danish monarchy’s guard unit, and then, during his army service, he was assigned to the UN force in Lebanon. Bnei Menashe, ‘Lost’ Indian Jews coming to Israel

2,000 Bnei Menashe curently live in Israel & another 5,000 are in the pipeline waiting to immigrate. This week, the Israeli gov’t  approved 899 more Bnei Menashe to come.

Tel Aviv Adopts Plan to Assimilate New Western Immigrants

 

A shift in demographic have caused Tel Aviv to accept “a strategy that puts more focus on the unique needs of the ‘new olim’ community.”

 

 

If you’ve spent the past decade or so in Tel Aviv, you’ve probably noticed the change. The city has increasingly found itself in the global spotlight, and English speakers – once relatively rare in the city – are hard to avoid on any street corner in central Tel Aviv. Even in the city’s south and in Jaffa, native English-speakers have become a prominent fixture of the first Hebrew city.

This influx hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Tel Aviv Municipality, which on Wednesday unveiled what it said was a “strategic plan to better integrate Western immigrants.”

Record Breaking ‘Children’s Aliyah Flight’ Will Arrive Monday

Gilad Schalit will chaperone the Nefesh b’Nefesh flight of a record-breaking 106 children in 41 families.

North American aliyah organization Nefesh B’Nefesh is set to break a record Monday with an historic “children’s aliyah flight” that is to carry 106 children, in 41 families, to start new lives in Israel. All in all, the flight will carry 231 new olim (Jews returning to Israel) from North America.

French Jewish immigration to Israel much higher from previous year

Jewish Agency anticipates about 2,500 French Jews immigrating to Israel in 2013, a 40% increase from last year.

The participation of young French Jews coming to Israel for long-term programs is also rising.

Immigration to Israel by French Jews is on the rise, according to data released by the Jewish Agency. The Jewish Agency expects that around 2,500 French Jews will move to Israel in 2013, a 40 percent increase from 2012.

Final operation to retrieve ‘left-behind’ Jews in Ethiopia

6,300 Jewish Ethiopians made it to Israel in last three years.

 

From now, aliyah requests for Falashmura Jews to be handled on individual basis, like everywhere else.

On August 28, two last flights will land in Israel, bringing 400 Falashmura new immigrants to the holy land. After this, the Jewish Agency will be closing down its camp in Gondar and the interior minister will hold an emergency hearing for all those who received negative answers.

Italian Parliament Member Fiamma Nirenstein has stated that she will not run for re-election at the Chamber of Deputies, instead, she’s fulfilling her dream by moving to Israel.

Italian journalist and Parliament Member Fiamma Nirenstein says she won’t run for re-election at the Chamber of Deputies. Instead, she’s moving to Israel.

1st flight of last Ethiopian Aliya set to arrive

1st flight of Operation Dove’s Wings, should bring remaining 240 Ethiopian ‘New Immigrants’ to Israel by March 2014.

A charter flight of some 240 Ethiopian Jews is set to arrive in Israel Monday afternoon, the beginning of the final stages of aliya from Ethiopia.

Monday’s scheduled flight marks the beginning of Operation Dove’s Wings, an Israeli government initiative to bring the remainder of the Falash Mura — Ethiopians whose ancestors converted from Judaism to Christianity — to Israel by March 2014.

The Ethiopians are waiting in a refugee camp in the Gondar province before coming to Israel.

Lily Hyde, 96, from Australia says of her aliya, ‘dream come true’

Australian, Lily Hyde, leaves her home for Tel Aviv, probably the oldest Australian ever to immigrate to Israel.

SYDNEY — A 96-year-old woman from Australia is immigrating to Israel.

Lily Hyde will leave the Sir Moses Montefiore Jewish Home in Sydney on Wednesday morning for Tel Aviv, where she will be reunited with her family. She is believed to be the oldest Australian ever to immigrate to Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu to meet with 127 North American immigrants arriving to serve in IDF

350 Canadian & American immigrants to be welcomed at Ben-Gurion Int’l Airport by Netanyahu • Majority wish to serve in IDF combat units • “I want to be part of something that’s bigger than me,” says Alona Bargi from California.

One hundred and twenty-seven young American and Canadian immigrants will arrive in Israel on Tuesday to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces. The record number of North American new immigrants ensliting in the IDF are part of an overall group of 350 olim who will touch down at Ben-Gurion Airport on Tuesday morning.

“Enlisting in the IDF feels like the right thing to do,” says Alona Bargi.
