The Secretary of the Hamas government in Gaza, Abd el-Salam Siam, said Sunday in a press release marking 26 years since the outbreak of the First Intifada that the Gaza government supports all forms of the struggle against “Israeli occupation,” including popular struggle, struggle through peaceful methods and armed struggle.

Siam said that the Palestinian people can develop new tactics in the struggle, and called on the Palestinian people to learn from the experience of the ‘rock intifada’ and unite its ranks. Continue Reading »

Boycott-Israel activists fined by French court for discrimination

This Court of Appeals ruling reversed a 2012 ‘not-guilty’ verdict by the Correctional Tribunal of Mulhouse.

 

 

A French court imposed a $1,300 fine on members of an anti-Israel group who called on supermarket shoppers to boycott Israeli products.

The Court of Appeals of Colmar near Strasbourg fined each of the group’s 12 members individually on Wednesday for their participation in a pro-boycott activity in 2009-2010, which the court qualified as “provocation to discrimination.” The court also gave the activists a suspended jail sentence, according to a report by the CRIF umbrella group of French Jewish communities.

A Nigerian court handed a life sentence for illegal arms trafficking and possession on Friday to a Lebanese man suspected of having links with Hezbollah, but freed another two Lebanese suspects in the case.

Secret service agents arrested Mustapha Fawaz, Abdullah Tahini, Talal Ahmad Roda and Hussain Nurudeen Kossdi between May 16 and May 28.

They suspected them of being members of the Lebanon-based Shi’ite Muslim organization, after a raid on a residence linked to Roda in the main northern city of Kano uncovered anti-tank weapons, landmines, heavy artillery, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic rifles. Continue Reading »

At American Studies Association, 37 speakers of 44 supported resolution boycotting Israel

At the annual meeting of the American Studies Association, participants who favored boycotting Israeli universities far outnumbered those opposed.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — For 90 minutes in a packed hotel conference room in the heart of Washington, Israel was the colonizer, the settler state, the perpetrator of apartheid.

As the annual meeting this weekend of the American Studies Association demonstrated, participants who favored boycotting Israeli universities far outnumbered those opposed.

Of 44 speakers, 37 supported the resolution, in which the association would endorse and “honor the call of Palestinian society for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions.” The preamble to the resolution accused Israeli universities of complicity in the occupation.

Lebanon rejects rumors that imported Israeli tomatoes cause cancer

 

Lebanon’s newspaper, ‘Daily Star’: Media reports tomatoes  causing vomiting and fatigue

The report came after similar reports disparaging Israeli tomatoes in the Egyptian press earlier this week.

Lebanon’s Agriculture Ministry on Friday denied media reports that Israeli tomatoes on the Lebanese market were causing sickness and harm to local residents, The Daily Star reported.

The Star quoted the Ministry as saying it was responding to reports that Israeli tomatoes were causing vomiting and fatigue, and were injected with cancerous cells.

“Shipments of imported tomatoes haven’t entered the Lebanese market for one month and only local production is being consumed,” the ministry said in a statement.

The students’ union at Middlesex University in north London has put up a plaque claiming that: “Checkpoints, attacks on universities and limitations on movement seriously hinder the ability of students in Palestine to learn.”

The Dutch Prime Minister has responded to a letter by the Simon Wiesenthal Center last month, in which he was asked to disband a statutory government body that has called on the Netherlands to develop closer ties to the terrorist organization Hamas at the expense of Israel.

ADL’s list of America’s ‘Top 10 anti-Israel groups’

While the annoying and very frustrating anti-Zionist Neturei Karta makes its debut, the ‘Jewish Voice for Peace’ has made it to the list once again.

 

 

The Anti-Defamation League released a list of the top 10 most “influential and active anti-Israel groups” in the U.S. on Monday, highlighting organizations it sees as being “fixated with delegitimizing Israel” and providing “misleading narratives” about Israel.

An Israel advocacy group has launched a transit campaign in opposition to anti-Israel ads on Vancouver buses and light rail stations.

StandWithUs, a right-leaning Israel advocacy group, began running two advertisements on Monday meant to combat the ads put up by the Palestine Awareness Committee.

The pro-Israel ads include one series of three maps purporting to show “Jewish Loss of Land” and are dated from 1000 BCE until “Today.” Continue Reading »

Two students from Turkey were arrested in Poland for using a Nazi salute on a group of Israeli students visiting the Majdanek concentration camp.

The Turkish students were taken into custody in Poland. The incident last week was reported in the Turkish media on Friday, according to Today’s Zaman.

Tunisia’s tennis federation ordered the country’s top player to withdraw from a match against an Israeli at a tournament in Uzbekistan.

Malek Jaziri had been scheduled to play Israel’s Amir Weintraub on Friday in the quarterfinals of an ATP Challenger tournament in Tashkent. He withdrew before the match and Weintraub advanced to the semifinals of the lower-tier event.

“Following a meeting this afternoon with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, I have the immense regret to inform you that you are ordered not to play against the Israeli player,” the federation said in an email to Jaziri. Continue Reading »
