Senators call on Obama to push Palestinians on peace talks with Israel

Two separate Senate letters calling on President Obama to make Israeli-Palestinian peace a priority during his visit to the region have been circulating among senators ahead of Obama’s arrival in Israel on Wednesday.

A letter initiated by Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) urges Obama in his meeting with Palestinian leaders to “make clear that the pathway for peace is through unconditional direct negotiations between both the Israelis and Palestinians.” Continue Reading »

69% of Americans are against US pushing peace on Israel

55% of Americans sympathize more with Israel, 9% sympathize more with the Palestinians  according to Washington Post-ABC poll.

Only 26% of Americans think US should take leading role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A large majority of Americans (69 percent) believe that the administration of US President Barack Obama should leave the handling of the peace process to Israel and the Palestinians rather than taking the lead in resolving the conflict between the sides, a Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday found.

The poll showed a serious decline among Americans in the desire that the US should take a leading role in arranging an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

Aviv Kochavi on Thursday presented a grim picture of Israel’s strategic surroundings, saying that four of the Middle East’s superpowers — Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt — were all led by religious leadership whose fundamental view of Israel is one of a “foreign, unwelcome element” and who increasingly see the world through religious lenses.

It is important for people to understand the context of the verses and hadiths regarding the Jews, and it is particularly important for Muslims to understand them properly. Taking verses or hadiths out of context leads not only to poor understanding, it leads to prejudicial attitudes and outright hatred of people who have done nothing wrong. Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Yaalon ruled out on Saturday the establishment of a “Palestinian” state next to Israel.

In a live interview panel in the Southern Sharon regional authority, Yaalon explained that it makes no difference what the “Palestinian” entity calls itself. “It can call itself the Palestinian empire for all I care,” he said. “The goals of the Authority’s head, Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas), are identical to those of Hamas.

“I began voting for Likud when I was still wearing a uniform, when I was Head of Military Intelligence, after I gained extensive familiarity with the Oslo Agreement,” Yaalon revealed. Continue Reading »

Hundreds protest against religious group’s efforts to strengthen local Jewish community.

Hundreds of Arab residents of Lod participated in a demonstration against what they call “Jewish settlement in the city and attempts to expel Arabs from their lands and homes.”

The protest was organized the Islamic Movement and other political and social organizations. The residents are protesting against a group of religious Zionists in the city who are engaged in social outreach.
