An Egyptian court listed the Palestinian group Hamas as a terrorist organization, judicial and security sources said on Saturday, one month after a judge listed the group’s armed wing as a terrorist group.

Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood which the authorities have also declared a terrorist group and have repressed systematically since the army ousted one of its leaders, Mohamed Mursi, from the presidency in 2013. Continue Reading »

Saudi Arabia blacklists Muslim Brotherhood & Hezbollah as terrorist groups

 

The Islamic Kingdom also deemed 2 other groups and encourages their Saudi fighters in Syria to return home.

Saudi Arabia on Friday declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, Al Arabiya News Channel reported.

The kingdom also included Lebanon-based Shi’ite group Hezbollah on its terrorism list along with the Syria-based Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the Nusra Front, an Al Qaida branch operating in Syria and Lebanon that was created in 2012.

French envoy has dinner reception to honor Hezbollah lawmakers

 

France’s Ambassador’s dinner may be considered in violation of EU sanctions outlawing contact with Hezbollah’s terrorist designated military wing.

BERLIN – Patrick Paoli, France’s Ambassador to Lebanon, hosted a dinner reception in early November for Hezbollah MPs and the political militia’s international affairs representative in which he honored the three Hezbollah members.

The Lebanese Daily Star reported the dinner gathering on Thursday. Hezbollah MPs Ali Fayyad and Nawwar Saheli along with international affairs member Ammar Moussawi were honored by Paoli.

It is unclear if the ambassador violated EU sanctions outlawing contact with the military wing of Hezbollah.

Bahrain’s foreign minister slammed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Tuesday for criticizing the Sunni-led Gulf kingdom’s treatment of its opposition Shi’ite population, AFP reported.

“The people of Bahrain are above being addressed by a criminal whose hands are stained by the blood of innocents in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq,” Khalid al-Khalifa wrote on his Twitter account.

Al-Khalifa’s comments came in response to Nasrallah’s warning on Monday that the government of Bahrain “should not assume it can continue to oppress its people and pressure the outside world to remain silent.” Continue Reading »

A Hezbollah official told the Financial Times last week, “People are not going to accept you living among them and calling them terrorists.”

Gerald Steinberg, a professor of political studies at Bar-Ilan University and the head of the Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor, told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday, “The reports of increased friction in southern Lebanon are not surprising after the European Union belatedly added Hezbollah to the list of terror organizations.”

Braver than EU, Gulf States to Sanction Hizbullah Entirely

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has announced plans to impose sanctions against Hizbullah that will see all arms of the group being labelled as a terrorist organization.

The Saudi Arabian daily Al-Watan reported on Sunday that the GCC views Hizbullah as a monolithic organization and “does not differentiate between Hizbullah’s military and political wings.”

This is a direct reference to the European Union’s decision last week to place only Hizbullah’s military wing on the list of terrorist entities, leaving the political faction off the blacklist. Continue Reading »

EU law officials to begin receiving intel on Hezbollah from Israel

Israeli officials say EU agencies will need tons of information on the Hezbollah to curtail its exploitation of operational agendas on the continent.

Israel official: Britain & US pressuring EU to blacklist Hezbollah’s military wing

Officials say UK & U.S. are pressing several reluctant EU countries to back such a move, ahead of the July 22 meeting of EU foreign ministers.

 

The foreign ministers of the European Union are most likely to add Hezbollah’s military wing to the body’s list of designated terror organizations when they meet on July 22, according to high-ranking Foreign Ministry officials in Jerusalem.

The officials said Britain and the United States are pressing several EU countries that are reluctant to back such a move.

UK Report: EU governments held secret talks with Hamas dispite terror blacklist

According to a report published in The Guardian, the Islamist terrorist group spoke with France, the UK, Spain & others despite EU’s official policy of isolating it.

The newspaper quoted senior Hamas officials as saying that the organization which today rules the Gaza Strip has over recent months held back-channel discussions with numerous EU governments, including the United Kingdom.

Britain asks EU to Reconsider and Blacklist Hizbullah

The UK’s push to have Hizbullah blacklisted may have gained support due to the group’s actions in Syria, say diplomats.

Britain has asked European Union foreign ministers to once again discuss putting Hizbullah’s so-called “military wing” on the EU terror list, diplomats said on Friday.

Several weeks ago, a British drive to reach a unanimous decision to blacklist Hizbullah failed, when the EU expressed fear that such a move would lead to instability in Lebanon and the Middle East.
