Father Gabriel Nadaf, an Arab Christian priest from the area of Nazareth, told Israeli media a week ago that the future of Arab Christians is in becoming one with the Jewish state.

Arab Christians seek partnership demanding equal rights & equal duties

Archaeologists discover 2000 yr-old Byzantine wine press & Church

Archaeologists for the Israel Antiquities Authority found the remains of an ancient community, most likely Christian, during the construction of an events hall near the Hamei Yoav hot springs.

The remains of an ancient Byzantine community, including a well-preserved wine press, were recently discovered by the Israel Antiquities Authority near the Hamei Yoav hot springs in southern Israel. The discovery was made during excavations for the construction of an events hall.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan’s King Abdullah signed Sunday an agreement by which they pledge to cooperate on protecting holy sites in Jerusalem.

The agreement was signed during Abbas’s visit in Jordan, in the presence of Palestinian Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud al-Habash and his Jordanian counterpart.

Chilean Ambassador’s remains to be scattered in Jerusalem

Chilean Ambassador to Israel Joaquin Montes Larraín, 61, died after losing a battle with cancer over the weekend. Before his death, Larraín had asked that his body be cremated and its remains be scattered in Jerusalem.

Larraín, who served as Chile’s ambassador to Israel since January 2011, was well respected in the diplomatic community. Diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia, he underwent aggressive treatment in Chile and was sent back to Israel, where he was admitted at the medical center in Tel Hashomer last month, at the advice of his Chilean doctors. An Egyptian Salafist group appears to be trying to retract a post on Facebook that warned that eating tomatoes are “forbidden because they are Christian.”

The Muslim traditionalist group, calling themselves the Popular Egyptian Islamic Association, claims that tomatoes are offensive if they are cut in such a way that reveals the shape of a cross, according to the Now Lebanon website.

“Eating tomatoes is forbidden because they are Christian,” the group posted on its Facebook page, along with of a photo of tomato cut in half to reveal what could be interpreted as a cross. Continue Reading »
