A Salafi Muslim jihadist group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday morning’s rocket attack on the Israeli Red Sea resort city of Eilat.

“The lions of the Mujahedeen Shura Council in the Environs of Jerusalem managed to target occupied Eilat with two Grad rockets on the morning of April 17, and withdrew safely,” a statement posted on jihadist web sites said. Continue Reading »

New IDF brigade establishes to protect Eilat

IDF formed Eilat Territorial Brigade to neutralize Sinai terrorist threat.

The IDF‘s Southern Command on Wednesday welcomed a new territorial brigade tasked with protecting the city of Eilat and the nearby communities.

The brigade is part of the Edom formation which defends 30% of Israel‘s territory. It was created to address the growing terrorist threat emanating from the Sinai region in the backdrop of Egyptian instability.

Col. Roi Be’eri will lead the new brigade. The first order of business will be to secure the construction of the fence in the 15 kilometer stretch of the Eilat mountains. Continue Reading »

U.S. citizen kills worker at Eilat hotel, then killed by police

The New Yorker, in his twenties, was working at the Leonardo Club Hotel as part of a program affiliated with Masa Israel Journey, for U.S. youth in Israel.

A 33-year-old Eilat hotel worker was killed on Friday morning by a gunman who stole a firearm from a security guard at the Leonardo Club Hotel in the southern city, and opened fire.

The shooter, a 23-year-old American citizen from New York, also an employee of the hotel, was later killed by police during an exchange of gunfire. Continue Reading »

Israeli officials believe that the terror cell that carried out the attack infiltrated the Sinai Peninsula from Gaza and fired the missiles as an act of revenge over the assassination of the secretary general of the PRC Zuhair Qaisiat the beginning of last month

Terrorists Fire Two Grad Rockets at Eilat

Terrorists fired two Grad rockets at the city of Eilat Wednesday night. No reports of physical injuries or damages.

 

Terrorists fired two Grad-type rockets at the city of Eilat on Wednesday night, according to a report on Kol Yisrael radio.

One of the rockets exploded in a construction zone located in a residential neighborhood in the city. Security forces were conducting searches in the area to locate the second rocket. There were no reports of physical injuries or damages.

It is unknown as of yet exactly from the rockets were fired, but officials said it is highly likely they were fired from the Sinai Peninsula. Continue Reading »

Report: Hamas Man Arrested for Plotting Eilat Attack

Authorities have arrested a Hamas terrorist in connection with a plot to carry out a new attack near Eilat, and kidnap another IDF soldier.

Authorities have arrested a Hamas terrorist in connection with a plot to carry out a new attack near Eilat and kidnap another IDF soldier.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) last month arrested Mahmoud Abu Adara and a second Hamas operative from the organization military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in connection with the plan. A gag order on the arrests was lifted Wednesday.

Adara, arrested in late February, is a resident of the southern Gaza border city of Rafiah, military sources said. Continue Reading »
