Another Terrorist Kills Himself in ‘Work Accident’

The founder of a terrorist group in the Sinai, responsible for killing of 8 Israelis in 2011, dies as his car-crash detonated bomb he was transporting.

A Sinai-based terrorist group has acknowledged that one of its founders, who took part in the 2011 coordinated attack on Eilat that killed eight Israelis, died last Tuesday. The terrorist was involved in a car crash, which detonated the explosives he was transporting.

The terrorist, identified as Tuwafik Mohammed Frij or “Abu Abdallah,” was a leader of the Salafist Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis terror organization that has claimed responsibility for firing Grad rockets at Eilat. Continue Reading »

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

Rocket alert sirens went off on Friday evening in Eilat. Residents reported hearing at least two strong blasts at around 9:40 P.M. The municipality called on residents to go into sheltered areas.

Police started combing the area to find the projectile shortly after the blasts. Continue Reading »

Arab Shot Running Towards Iron Dome Position

IDF soldiers shoot at Arab man’s legs after storming the Iron Dome installation screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’.

Soldiers guarding an Iron Dome installation near the city of Eilat fired on an Arab man on Thursday after he ran at them screaming “Allahu Akbar” (Arabic for “G-d is great”).

Fearing a terrorist attack, the soldiers shot at the man’s legs in order to stop him. The man was hit and injured.

He was taken to Eilat’s Yoseftal Hospital. It is not yet clear whether the man is armed and was attempting a terrorist attack, or is mentally ill. Continue Reading »

Sinai Salafists Responsible for Yesterday’s Rocket Attack on Eilat

The Sinai-based jihadi group, Ansar Bayt al-Makdis, declares that ‘the Jews will only see injury from us.’

The Long War Journal reports Tuesday that a Sinai-based Salafist group has claimed responsibility for Monday’s rocket fire on Eilat.

The jihadist group, named Ansar Jerusalem or Ansar Bayt al Makdis, posted on Gaza based social media a statement boasting the attack.

“Our war with the enemy in Egypt has not dissuaded us from the war against the first enemy of our nation,” the statement claims. “With Allah’s help, the Jews will only see injury from us.”

The organization is believed to be the most prominent group operating against the Egyptian army in recent months. Continue Reading »

Rockets fired on Eilat from the Sinai

 Security  Alert – – Rockets Fired on Eilat

Last strike on Eilat occurred in August, when Iron Dome intercepted rockets.

 

Two rockets were fired at the southern Israeli city of Eilat on Monday evening, apparently from the Sinai Peninsula.

Police forces began combing the city shortly after the blasts were heard, at around 7 P.M., and located one of the projectiles in an open area near the entrance to the city.

An Iron Dome anti-missile battery intercepted a rocket targeting Eilat in August, marking the first time the Iron Dome system a rocket has been shot down over the southern resort city. Continue Reading »

Thousands of illegal African migrants protest at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv

Hundreds of asylum seekers, out of an estimated 49,000 migrants from Sudan or Eritrea who are illegally living in Israel, have been detained or ordered to report to a detention center over the past 2 weeks.

 

 

Tens of thousands of African migrants held a protest in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on Sunday morning, against efforts to round them up and send them to a detention center.

7th Quake in a Week – This Time in Eilat

Israel’s unusual week of mini-earthquakes continues. Unlike previous tremors, this latest earthquake was felt in southern Israel.

Israel’s unusual period of seismic activity continued today (Wednesday), as yet another small earthquake was felt – this time in the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat.

Although epicenter of the quake, which registered 3.3. on the Richter Scale, was located in the Egyptian town of Taaba, tremors were registered in the Israeli resort city. No damage or injuries occurred.

This is the seventh such mini-earthquake in a week, and Israel has been abuzz with speculation as to whether such a rare string of tremors could portend a much larger earthquake. Continue Reading »

Rocket fired by Sinai terrorists at Eilat intercepted by Iron Dome

 

Siren activated then blasts heard around the southern city.

Rocket attack comes just days after alleged Israeli drone successfully killed Al-Qaida-affiliated terrorists in the Sinai.

 

 

 

Terrorists fired a rocket at Eilat shortly before 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning, triggering an air raid siren and activating the Iron Dome anti-rocket battery, which is stationed at the Red Sea city.

The Iron Dome system intercepted at least one rocket, according to initial IDF assessments.

It is unknown at this stage whether additional rockets fell in open areas outside of the city.

IDF Orders Eilat Airport Closed Due to Terror Concerns

A security assessment in Southern Israel led the IDF to immediately shutdown Eilat  airport.

The IDF ordered the immediate shutdown of the airport at Eilat Thursday to all arriving and departing flights, following an unspecified security assessment.

The assessment is most likely linked to terrorist activity in the Sinai desert, which borders on the southern port city.

Takeoffs of flights headed north were initially allowed to take place but were also stopped later in the evening.

The IDF will open the airfield at Uvda as an alternate landing spot for flights diverted from Eilat.

The Egyptian military has been conducting a large scale offensive against terror cells that operate in Sinai, in the last few weeks. Continue Reading »

The IDF has deployed an Iron Dome battery in the southern city of Eilat as the Egyptian army launches a large-scale operation to purify the Sinai Peninsula of al-Qaeda inspired terrorist cells.

FOUND: Remains of rocket fired from Egypt last week

The rocket attack last Thursday had been the 1st to hit near Israel’s southern tourist city since a similar attack back in April.

Israeli troops found the remains on Tuesday of the first rocket to be fired from Egypt since the July 3 overthrow of the Islamist government there, a military official said.

Both Israelis and Egyptians reported hearing several explosions in the southern city of Eilat on Thursday, the day after President Mohammed Morsi was toppled from power in Egypt.

Sinai Jihadi movement claims they fired rockets at Eilat

The Jamaat Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis has claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on Southern Israel in the past and now, boasts its rockets ‘scared Israelis into shelters’ although explosions were heard, no signs of rockets were found.

Though Eilat residents reported hearing two or three loud bangs, security forces have yet to finds any trace of the rockets.

Eilat is Given the ‘All Clear’ After Reported Explosions Heard Earlier

Police report to residents of Eilat that they can resume their regular routine after locals reported hearing loud explosions.

The city of Eilat was given the “all clear” on Thursday night, several hours after residents reported hearing loud explosions in the city.

Security forces were checking to determine whether the explosions were caused by Grad rockets that were fired at the city. After several hours of searching, police and the Home Front Command assessed the situation and announced that life in the city may return to normal.

Eilat region experiences 4.9 earthquake

Eilat residents reported feeling an earthquake

 at 2:52 pm, the shortly afterwards US information center confirmed: 4.9 earthquake originating in Sinai.

At 14:52 Eilat residents sent Ynet emails reporting the quake. “I live on the third floor and I the couch moved,” Dima wrote.

Ynet received numerous emails from local citizens reporting a 10-second quake. No injures or damage have been reported.

The Geophysical Institute of Israel has confirmed citizens’ reports that a 10-second earthquake was felt in the Eilat region. Continue Reading »
