Israel caught between Pompeo’s ‘no’ and Croatia’s deadline on F-16 jets sale

U.S. demands Israel remove all its sophisticated electronics and radar system avionics it added to the US made F-16 fighter jets it bought from Washington some 30 years ago, but the Israeli technological upgrades were crucial in Croatia’s decision to purchase the fighters from Israel over models directly from the U.S.

Croatia on Thursday urged Israel to overcome a rare disagreement with the U.S. and confirm whether it can carry through on a deal to sell 12 used F-16 fighter jets, adding that otherwise the purchase will be annulled.

Croatia announces purchase of 12 Israeli F-16s with upgraded IAF avionics

Croatia’s acquisition of an Israel Air Force squadron of 12 used F-16 fighters is meant to replace their old MiG-21 jets Zagreb believes will upgrade their defenses against its neighbor, Kremlin-backed Serbia.

Croatia said Wednesday it will purchase upgraded Israeli F-16 fighter aircraft as it seeks to bolster its defenses amid Russia’s arming of neighboring Serbia.

Once formally approved by the government, it will be Croatia’s largest single military deal since it split from Serb-led Yugoslavia in the bloody 1991-95 war.

Israeli Air Force shoots down Hamas UAV over Gaza coastline

 

Tuesday morning the IAF dispatched an F-16 after it identified a Hamas drone take off and fly over the Gaza coastline, violating Israeli airspace.

The drone was shot down over the coastline in the Gaza Strip, and the IDF stated that it never penetrated Israeli territory. The military also stated that they had tracked the UAV from the moment that it launched.

U.S. Finalizing Delivery of F-16 Fighter Jets to Egypt

The White House decided to expedite transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Egypt despite Morsi’s overthrow.

The United States plans to go through with the delivery of four F-16 fighter jets to Egypt in the coming weeks, despite the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, U.S. officials told the Reuters news agency on Wednesday.

The clarification came as Washington deliberated whether to call the ouster of Egypt’s elected leader a military coup.

A decision to brand Morsi’s ouster a coup would, by law, require the Obama administration to halt aid to the Egyptian army.

Turkish F-16 jet goes down, pilot ejects near Syrian border

Turkey’s military said it lost contact with the pilot of a F-16 jet over a mountainous area about 30 miles from the Syrian border in what is thought to be an accident.

Turkey’s military says it has lost contact with a fighter plane in southern Turkey, in what is likely an accident, Turkey’s NTV television cited military sources as saying Monday.

F-16s to Egypt an undeserving qualitative upgrade for the Muslim Brotherhood

The present sale represents a qualitative upgrade for Egypt, which until now has only received older models of the F-16. However, it would be more advisable to build up Egypt’s ability to assure its internal security in places like Sinai, where al-Qaeda affiliates have built up for themselves a substantial foothold.

Convoy was Ruse, Israeli F-16 droped Bunker-Buster on Syria’s Chemical Site

London-based Arab newspaper says many Iranian Revolutionary Guards that were guarding the installation were killed.

The site allegedly attacked by Israel in Syria manufactured chemical and biological weapons, according to a report in Iraqi newspaper Azzaman that appears in London.

The newspaper quoted Western diplomats who are close to the regime of Bashar al-Assad. It says that the classified installation, which is located just 12 kilometers (7 miles) from the presidential palace, was guarded by a large contingent of Iranian Revolutionary Guards, many of whom died in the attack.

F-16 Engines Missing from Israel Air Force Base

The IAF only recently discoverd that several jet-engines have been stolen. The IDF Suspects Arab metal thieves with the help of soldier/s from the base.

The Air Force has discovered in recent days that several F-16 fighter jet engines were stolen from one of its bases, news website Walla reported Thursday.

Senior IAF sources said that the thieves who stole the engines had to have been assisted by someone within the base. This determination is based, among other things, on the fact that there was no damage to the base’s perimeter fence. Continue Reading »
