The US/Russia engineered ‘not-so-secret’ Israel-Lebanon gas deal

With neither Israel nor Lebanon acknowledging the historic deal, Washington and Moscow are said to have orchestrated this ‘no longer secret’ Israel-Lebanon gas deal in order to undermine Iran’s control over Lebanon.

Israel has reportedly signed a secret agreement to supply natural gas to energy-starved Lebanon, through Egypt, Jordan and Syria.

Amos Hochstein, the U.S. senior adviser for energy security, brokered the deal signed on Saturday in which Israeli gas may end up in Lebanon, Israeli media reported.

Gas would be pumped from the Leviathan offshore extraction station, 81 miles west of Haifa, and shipped via a pipeline through Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian territory. Continue Reading »

Jordanian lawmaker asks Jordanians to martyr themselves against gas deal

Prior to the electrical equipment of Israel-Jordan gas-line being torched yesterday in protest to the upcoming import of natural gas from Israel, Jordanian parliamentarian Tariq Khoury demanded, “Every free man in Jordan must sacrifice himself and his children to blow up a gas line that passes through Jordanian territory, we are all martyrs of the project.”

Two electrical transformers servicing a gas transfer station intended to transport gas from the Leviathan natural gas field in Israel into Jordan were torched by unidentified people in Irbid in northern Jordan on Saturday.

Israeli companies to pump gas to Egypt in $518 million deal

Israel’s Delek Group, Noble Energy are acquiring 40% of the Egypt-Israel gas pipeline with rights to operate it, enabling the Israeli companies to pump gas to Egypt as early as this year, assuming it will still be in demand.

After several weeks of frantic negotiations, the Israeli drilling companies Delek Drilling LP, Noble Energy Inc., and the Egyptian East Gas Co. signed a deal to buy a 39% stake in the EMG pipeline to export natural gas to Egypt starting next year, the partners said on Thursday.

WATCH: Netanyahu announces $15B natural gas deal sold to Egypt

Gas operators Delek and Noble of Israel’s Tamar and Leviathan natural gas fields will supply Egypt with seven billion cubic meters of gas annually, in a deal worth an estimated $15 billion.

A group of private customers in Egypt have agreed to buy at least $1.2 billion of natural gas from Israel’s offshore Tamar field via an old pipeline built to send gas to Israel.

The Tamar partners said on Wednesday they signed a seven-year deal with Dolphinus Holdings, a firm that represents non-governmental, industrial and commercial consumers in Egypt, that calls for a minimum 5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to be sold in the first three years. Continue Reading »

Parliament began debating the proposed gas deal on Tuesday, after 79 lawmakers in the 150-seat house filed a motion calling for it to be scrapped.
