Huge Explosion Heard in Northern Golan Heights

Explosion felt near IDF vehicle on patrol on the Golan Heights near the Syrian border caused no injuries but did do minor damage. IDF investigating but waiting for first light to examine area.

A powerful explosion was heard on Friday evening in the Golan Heights, near an IDF vehicle that was on routine patrol along the Syrian-Israeli border, near the slopes of Mount Hermon.

No one was injured as a result of the explosion, but damage was caused to the rear window of the military vehicle.

The explosion was so powerful that it was heard for kilometers away, and many forces were called to the scene to investigate. Continue Reading »

Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon says the IDF has sent food & water across the border, and has been helping the Syrian refugees prepare for winter rains.

 

The Israel Defense Forces has been providing humanitarian aid to Syrians living near the border, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon revealed on Tuesday during a tour of the frontier.

Israeli Druze Join Assad vs. Israeli Arabs Join the Rebels

Israeli citizens are volunteering on both sides of Syria’s civil war. Golan Druze mostly support Assad while Israeli Arabs largely favor the rebel forces.

There are Israelis fighting on both sides of Syria’s civil war. While it has been known for months that some Israeli Arab men have entered Syria to join  rebel armies, Walla news is now reporting that several Druze men have snuck into Syria as well, to fight alongside President Bashar Assad’s forces.

Among them is 24 year-old Nadim Kadmani, who entered Syria illegally in 2012. Israeli police searched for him for weeks, until he phoned his parents and revealed that he was in Syria, and had been unable to make contact because he was being questioned by Assad’s forces. Continue Reading »

Syria mortars pound Golan Heights again

 

Two shells fired from the Syrian side of the border land at the foot of Tel Fares. No reported injuries.

Two mortar shells fired from Syrian territory at around noon Monday landed in an open area in the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan Heights, near Tel Fares. There were no reports of injury, and it remains unclear if any damage was caused. IDF forces were sweeping the area.

An IDF Tamuz missile destroyed Wednesday afternoon a Syrian cannon which had fired two shells into Israeli territory earlier in the day and lightly injured two soldiers.

During the incident in the northern Golan Heights, one soldier sustained light wounds from shrapnel, while another suffered from severe shock.

2 IDF Soldiers Injured In Golan Heights From Syrian Mortar Fire

2 Israeli soldiers were wounded from a mortar shell that fell next to them, on the northern Golan Heights.

Two Israeli soldiers were slightly wounded by cross-border fire in the Golan Heights facing Syria.

A mortar shell exploded in the northern Golan Heights. It is not known whether the attack was spillover from the ongoing Syrian civil war or intentional.

According to preliminary reports, one of the soldiers was injured from shrapnel fragments and the other had suffered from shock as a result from the fall.

Both soldiers were initially treated for their moderate wounds at the scene by Magen David Adom medics, however, the pair will receive further treatment at a nearby hospital. Continue Reading »

New barrier, designed by the IDF to prevent the infiltration of terrorists from Syria into Israel has proven to also be missile proof.


 

A series of tests recently carried out by the IDF has confirmed that Israel’s new barrier on the border with Syria is missile proof.

The test was carried out by the Golan Brigade, under the command of Col. Arik Hen, to test the the five-meter border barrier’s ability to withstand a direct missile strike, as well as small arms fire.

It came as part of a wider initiative by the army to beef up its defenses along the border with Syria, in light of the ongoing civil war in Syria and the growth of radical jihadi organizations.

Golan Heights: Syrian Gunfire targets border fence construction site

 

Israel civilian workers constructing the new border fence between Israel & Syria were targeted by Syrian gunfire.

None injured but small wild-fire broke out.

Gunfire was opened on Tuesday at laborers raising a new border fence on the Israeli-Syrian border, near the Hermonit Post in the Golan Heights.

No injuries were reported, but a fire has broken out in the area.

Six Syrian outposts have been destroyed over the past few months by Tamuz missiles fired by IDF Artillery Corps soldiers. Ynet is revealing for the first time images from an incident in March during which one such missile destroyed a Syrian position after machine gun fire emanating from the outpost targeted Israeli soldiers.

Two mortar shells fired from Syria landed in the southern Golan Heights adjacent to the Israeli-Syrian border on Thursday.

Initial evidence suggests that the shells were a result of errant fire from Syria’s civil war that accidentally entered Israeli territory, the IDF stated.

No injuries or damage were reported in the incident. IDF soldiers were searching the area for the spent shells.

IDF Retaliates After Syrian Shells Target Golan Heights

IDF Radio reported Saturday evening that the Israeli response destroyed a Syrian military position, the source of the attack on Israel.

The Israeli army fired into Syria after shells from the neighboring country hit the Israeli side of the Golan Heights on Saturday, a military spokesman said. IDF Radio reported the Israeli attack demolished a Syrian military position.

“Today, several shells fired from Syria landed in the central Golan heights, adjacent to the Israel-Syria border,” the spokesman told AFP.

Syrian Gunfire Hits Close to IDF Soldiers

An IDF patrol in the northern Golan Heights was almost hit by gunfire originating in Syria. No injuries reported.

Gunfire from the Syrian side of the border hit close to an IDF patrol in the northern Golan Heights on Thursday night. There were no injuries or damages.

The IDF believes that the fire was not directed at the Israeli soldiers and was part of the ongoing fighting between the Syrian army and the rebels fighting to oust President Bashar Al-Assad.

Two weeks ago, fire was opened at an IDF patrol near Tel Fares in the southern Golan Heights, after the troops identified two Syrians who entered an abandoned military outpost located east of the border fence. Continue Reading »
