Special Tribunal to try Hezbollah defendants for assassinating Lebanese PM Hariri

 

Special Tribunal for Lebanon will open trial  against Hezbollah defendants in absentia, charged with assassinating former Prime Minster Rafik Hariri and the 21 also killed in the 2005 massive car-bomb explosion.

 

 

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is set to open the trial in absentia on Thursday against the Hezbollah defendants alleged to have assassinated former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri and killed 21 others on February 14, 2005.

To date, the case has riled, divided and inflamed already hot disputes between Lebanon’s Sunni and Shiite population, with Sunnis demanding justice and Hezbollah claiming the case was pushed forward by Western countries trying to reduce and besmirch its name (even though the court was formed with Lebanon’s consent.) Iranian general: Hezbollah can pinpoint missile targets anywhere in Israel

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The Lebanese militant Shiite movement Hezbollah has dramatically improved its missile capabilities and can now pinpoint targets anywhere in Israel, a senior commander of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards said Saturday.

According to a source in the Lebanese port city of Tripoli, which has been wracked by deadly clashes between militias supporting different sides in the Syrian civil war, the Iranian-backed group is paying $25,000 to families of operatives killed fighting Syrian rebel forces, apparently in an attempt to conceal the true extent of its support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. 5 Rockets fired at northern Israel, “double war crimes” under cover of Lebanese gov’t

One rocket exploded just west of Kiryat Shmona, though apparently 5 were launched.

At least five Katyusha rockets were fired from Lebanon at northern Israel on Sunday, one of which exploded inside of Israeli territory. No casualties or damage were reported.

Report: Teheran has Assad smuggling weapons to Hezbollah via Iraq

 

The weapons transfer through Iraqi airports is done to avoid Israeli air strike on weapons convoys traveling from Syria to Lebanon.

Iran and Syria are reportedly smuggling weapons to Hezbollah through Iraqi airports, to avoid IDF attacks on weapons convoys crossing the border from Syria to Lebanon, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Seyassah reported.

According to the report, this method of smuggling arms has been agreed on by the two sides two months ago.

The ‘Good News’: Lebanese TV station OTV reported Mossad’s “Kidon” unit successfully infiltrated south Beirut’s most highly guarded neighborhood in the middle of Hezbollah controlled Beirut to assassinate Hezbollah’s top General.

The ‘Bad News’: A Kuwaiti newspaper, however, reported that Hassan al-Laqqis was killed by his own organization for being an Israeli agent.

France’s Ambassador’s dinner may be considered in violation of EU sanctions outlawing contact with Hezbollah’s terrorist designated military wing.

24 hrs later: Still no word from Hassan Nasrallah

With no word from Hezbollah, and no other sources to confirm the report on a Lebanese website that Hezbollah’s leader was injured in a blast that killed 22 of his men, the Free Syrian Army reports to have injured the Shiite terrorist group’s leader.

Syrian rebel forces claim that they have succeeded in injuring Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, a Lebanese website reported this morning, citing a Facebook message. No other source has confirmed the report.

Secret service agents arrested Mustapha Fawaz, Abdullah Tahini, Talal Ahmad Roda and Hussain Nurudeen Kossdi between May 16 and May 28.

Local reports vary on whether blast caused by car bombs or rockets.

 

 

At least 23 people were killed Tuesday morning when an explosion rocked south Beirut. According to some reports, the explosion targeted the Iranian embassy.
