Navy seeking teenage submarine recruits for newly bought Dolphin-class vessels

 

4th & 5th German-made Dolphin-class submarines soon to enter Israel’s navy’s service in 2014.

The 6th sub still being manufactured in Germany.

 

 

The Israel Navy is taking its search for future submarine crew members, who will operate three soon-to-be operational new generation Dolphin-class vessels, to Israel’s high schools.

Maj. Yisrael (last name withheld), who runs the Navy’s high school outreach program, said the arrival of the new submarines and the need to fill them with new crew members led the navy to begin reaching out to 11th graders to get them to apply for Navy service.

Israeli Navy stopped ship in December on suspicion of smuggling weapons

that 6 months ago IDF naval forces stopped, boarded vessel they suspected was smuggling arms.

The IDF has cleared for publication Tuesday that an Israeli navy force, active in securing Israel’s waters, captured a foreign vessel at sea in December and took its crew in for questioning.

On the basis of intelligence information, Israeli navy cruisers stopped a ship in Israeli water last December, possibly in connection to arms smuggling.

Israeli Navy’s ‘Protector’, unmanned watercraft to begin operations

After a better than successful trial period, the Israeli Navy is expected to incorporate the Enhanced version of Protector unmanned watercraft into operational duties.

The Navy is set to introduce new experimental unmanned watercraft which completed a trial period after two and half years. The Navy is to receive Protectors and more advanced watercraft from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

On patrol boat 836, circling two gas platforms in choppy Mediterranean waters, Captain Ilan Lavi flipped through pictures of the possible threats: boat bombs, drones, submarine vessels, rockets and missiles.

Israeli Submarines Spotted Off Coast of Lebanon

Israeli subs have allegedly been spotted cruising off of Lebanon’s coast between Sidon & Nakura.

Israeli submarines have allegedly been spotted cruising off the coast of Lebanon between Sidon and Nakura, according to a report in Lebanese media.

French tracking installations informed the United Nations that the subs had been detected, according to the report, published in the Al-Dayar daily newspaper.

New Israel Navy submarine ‘sinks enemy ships’

The Israel Navy (INF) released a rare video Monday, allowing a sneak peak at its most expensive weapon – the stealth submarine.

The video shows an exercise in which the submarine’s crew fires torpedoes at “enemy warships.”

The exercise was held as part of the INF’s preparations to receive its fourth German-made submarine, which is currently making its way to Israel. A fifth submarine has been contracted.

The Navy plans to add more sailors to its elite submarine unit and the current submarine crewmen course graduation will mark a new record in their numbers. Continue Reading »

Israeli Navy Prepared to Defend Mediterranean Gas Rigs

The Israeli Navy is prepared to neutralize threats targeting Israel’s Tamar natural gas rig, the IDF Website reported Saturday. The Navy will protect the reception facility – a vital infrastructural facility to pump gas from the rig – which is currently being built.

The IDF’s defensive model has been tested in three scenarios: routine, escalation, and emergency.

Gaza-bound ship ‘Estelle’ boarded by Israeli Navy

Israel’s Navy seizes ship carrying 30 pro-Palestinian activists, from breaking blockade of Gaza.

The Israeli navy boarded the Gaza-bound “Estelle” ship seeking to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza, an army spokesperson confirmed at 11:40 am on Saturday.

The army said the soldiers seized control of the ship, which is carrying pro-Palestinian activists, in accordance with the government’s decision and international law, diplomatic efforts to prevent the vessel from reaching Gaza’s shore had failed.

“When the passengers made it clear that they would not cooperate or accept the invitation to sail to southern port of Ashdod, it was decided to seize the vessel and rerouted to the Ashdod,” the army said in a statement. Continue Reading »

Israel’s Rafael unveils new USV for Israel Navy – the Protector

The ‘Protector’ is equipped with a 360-degree cameras & water cannons; ship designed to support maritime security.

 

It is fast, small and unmanned and soon, the Navy’s Protector ship will also be non-lethal.Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Protector unmanned surface vehicle (USV) was designed to support maritime security, mostly for border patrols and port security.

Based on a small speedboat, the ship was deployed by the Israel Navy a number of years ago off the Gaza coast.

Earlier this month, Rafael unveiled a new version of the USV that is longer, faster, more reliable and comes with a high pressure water hose attached for non-lethal mission.
