One name of 3 Israelis killed in Nepal avalanche has been released

 

Of 23 people rescued, about 15 climbers, including 12 Israelis, were recovering in a hospital in Kathmandu. Searches for any additional casualties resumed on Thursday morning.

Agam Luria, a 23 year old from Yifat, a kibbutz in the northern Galilee, was named as one of three Israeli hikers killed in a Himalayan avalanche on Wednesday.

A fourth Israeli is still missing, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday. The names of the two other casualties have yet to be released to the public.

At least 85 climbers are still unaccounted for after a blizzard dumped snow and triggered avalanches along a mountain trekking route popular with backpackers, the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal said on Thursday. Continue Reading »

Are there really 750,000 Israelis residing in the United States?

Precise data differ between the different governmental sources or Jewish organizations, not to mention, how does one define an Israeli?

NEW YORK – It’s not easy to find accurate data about the number of Israelis living in the United States. The Israeli government and the Jewish Agency are in5e simple fact that no one has precise numbers. Be that as it may, the numbers being bandied about these days range from 200,000 to 1 million.

Drawing on estimates of Israeli government ministries and the Agency, Sagi Balasha, CEO of the Los Angeles-based Israeli American Council which represents Israelis and promotes their interests, believes that there are between 500,000 and 800,000 Israelis living in the United States.

U.S. law enforcement eying illegal Israeli mall workers

In the US, the thought of undocumented workers is more likely to conjure images of  Latino gardeners or nannies caring for the children of the affluent rather than pushy Israeli salespeople in air-conditioned malls selling hand creams.

3 Israelis surfing in Hawaii rescue 8 drowning kids

The 3 young Israelis were hailed as heroes by the parents who watched helplessly from shore as their children were being pulled out to sea.

Three Israeli surfers went to the aid of eight children struggling in the waters off Hawaii on Saturday, Channel 2 television reported, after huge waves began surging toward the coast. The three – Tzvika  Elias, Yair Naftali and Gabi Liptz – were hailed as heroes by the children’s parents.

“We had gone to a remote beach half an hour from Honolulu,” 30-year-old Elias, who lives in New York, told Channel 2.

India arrests Israeli caught with rifle bullets in backpack

Israel working to release Israeli on post-army trip after Indian authorities recover 2 bullets in his backpack forgotten there from his army service

An Israeli man was detained in Mumbai, India last week after he was found carrying two rifle bullets in his backpack, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Tuesday. Israelis working to secure his release.

The man, in his 20s, was on a post-army trip to the Far East and had apparently forgotten the bullets in his backpack during his service in a combat military unit.
