Or Asraf, Israel’s only fatality in Nepal, has been found by searchers

Asraf is the sole fatality of the 250 Israelis that were unaccounted for in Nepal, immediately after the earthquake that has killed more than 7,000 so far.

A search team in Nepal discovered Sunday the body of 22-year-old Israeli trekker Or Asraf who had been missing since last Saturday when a 7.9 magnitude earthquake devastated the Himalayan country.

Asraf was the only Israeli to lose his life in the quake which has killed more than 7,000 people. His family confirmed on Sunday that they had been officially notified of his death. Continue Reading »

The death toll from a devastating earthquake in Nepal has risen to 5,844, the government said Thursday.

Another 11,175 people have been injured in the 7.8-magnitude quake that hit on Saturday, the home ministry said in a series of tweets.

Climbing will resume on Mount Everest by next week after an earthquake-triggered avalanche that left 18 people dead on the world’s highest peak, a Nepalese government official said Thursday.

Saturday’s avalanche that ripped through base camp also destroyed ladders through the treacherous Khumbu icefall higher up the mountain, raising doubts about the future of this year’s climbing season. Continue Reading »

Helicopter Rescue Four Israelis From Mount Everest

Israel’s gov’t says it is aware of 6 Israelis stuck on Langtang trail as trekker & his mother call for helicopter rescue.

Four Israelis caught up in the earthquake in Nepal were rescued Monday from Mount Everest by the Harel insurance company. The four had been trapped at high altitude and were rescued by helicopter.

Meanwhile, other Israelis left stranded by the devastating quake and their relatives are calling on the government to take immediate steps to rescue them as conditions worsen and the death toll rises.

Some 100 Israelis have still to make contact following the quake, but with electricity outages and appalling weather conditions, it could be difficult for many to do so. Continue Reading »

Second Disaster in Nepal as 2 Israeli Women Killed in Bus Crash

A bus traveling from Kathmandu to Langtang has fallen off a cliff and into a ravine in the Himalayas, Nepalese sources told Arutz Sheva on Friday morning.

The bus fell 150 meters (492 ft.) after coming off a narrow road in Belkot, Nuwakot district, about 75 kilometers (46 miles) northwest of Kathmandu, according to Kantipur Television.

The Nepalese government’s search and rescue operation in the Himalayas has entered its fifth day, less than a week after hundreds of trekkers were caught off guard by a blizzard and an avalanche in the popular Annapurna Range.

One name of 3 Israelis killed in Nepal avalanche has been released

 

Of 23 people rescued, about 15 climbers, including 12 Israelis, were recovering in a hospital in Kathmandu. Searches for any additional casualties resumed on Thursday morning.

Agam Luria, a 23 year old from Yifat, a kibbutz in the northern Galilee, was named as one of three Israeli hikers killed in a Himalayan avalanche on Wednesday.

A fourth Israeli is still missing, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday. The names of the two other casualties have yet to be released to the public.

Israeli volunteers in Nepal find solution to extend life expectancy

Israeli volunteers suggest unique solution to extend current low life expectancy of  inhabitants in rural Nepal.

Dozens of Israeli volunteers, including Israeli Ambassador in Kathmandu, Hanan Goder, recently visited a remote village in Nepal where inhabitants typically die at a young age and found an original way to instead give them long and healthy lives.

Israeli volunteers help Nepalese extend life expectancy

Behind the project is the Israeli humanitarian organization Tevel b’Tzedek (The Earth – In Justice), which every years picks about 100 Israeli and Jewish volunteers from around the world to come to Nepal for educational programs and humanitarian work.

The organization has been operating for the past four years in the impoverished village of Mahda Besi, providing training in the fields of agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth and education, and health and sanitation. Continue Reading »
