Essay by Moshe Arens: Palestinians are not wanted in Jordan

There are at present an estimated 500,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria, and clearly the last thing the rulers of Jordan want is for them to come streaming into Jordan.

The official Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted al-Majali as saying the claims were unfounded, and aimed at harming Jordan’s claims with Iraq.

He added that the accusations were ‘tantamount to a conspiracy aimed at intimidating’ the Hashemite Kingdom.

“How can oil be smuggled to Israel, while Jordan needs every drop,” he pointed out.

Jarekji AMMAN — Jordan is reportedly taking steps toward easing restrictions on Palestinians from the Gaza Strip looking for work in the kingdom, but progress has been slow amid controversy over its impact on the unemployment rate and the country’s sensitive demographics.

Sharing a small house with his wife and eight children, Ahmed said that until recently he was prohibited from owning property, despite earning and saving enough from his small construction company to afford a home. Continue Reading »
