The Ministry of Defense’s new wheeled armored personnel carrier (APC), known as the ‘Eitan,’ has finished its first round of operational testing with the Nahal Infantry Brigade, which will be the first IDF combat unit to make use of the new vehicle.

The IDF’s Eitan high speed APC will enable rapid deployment of forces to critical areas and will also be equipped with the Trophy active protection system, that intercepts RPGs and neutralizes anti-tank missile threats.

The Defense Ministry unveiled on Monday the IDF’s first wheeled armored personnel carrier (APC). The platform will soon enter service, joining the tracked Namer APC to eventually replace the aging and vulnerable M113 platforms.

Israel’s ‘Namer’ APCs with Trophy system rolling into service

A number of Namer armored personnel carriers made over the past two months have been equipped with the Trophy HV active protection system, which destroys anti-tank missiles and rocket-propelled grenades in mid-air, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

At the end of January, the Defense Ministry revealed that the first Namer armored personnel carrier equipped with the system, made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, had come off the production line. Continue Reading »

The IDF’s “Na’mer” is ready for battle

Meet the Na’mer, the ‘tank-body’ APC, a 63.5-ton metal beast that’s the IDF’s main transport platform for carrying infantry troops into combat.

The Namer’s operators run through their last checks. Their commanders, situated on a mound overlooking the area, radio their instructions. The desert wind blows through the expansive training ground, marked by sandy hills and valleys.
