Abbas Threatens ICC Charges Over Israeli Housing Plans

Palestinian Authority warns that it may file war crimes charges against Israel with the Int’l Crimes Court if it doesn’t halt east Jerusalem building plans

Israel is moving forward with plans for two major settlement projects in east Jerusalem, a spokeswoman said Tuesday, even as a senior Palestinian official warned that his government could pursue war crimes charges if Israel does not halt such construction.

International anger over Israeli settlement construction has snowballed in recent days, following the UN’s decision to upgrade the Palestinian Authority’s status to that of a “nonmember state” last week.

Israel retaliated by announcing plans to build 3,000 homes in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, as well as preparations for construction of an especially sensitive project near Jerusalem, known as E1. Continue Reading »

Jordanian King to Visit Ramallah to Help Abbas Establish ‘State of Palestine’

Jordan’s King Abdullah II is set to arrive in Ramallah for a visit. 

The King is the 1st Arab leader to visit since the PA was granted an upgraded status at the UN General Assembly.

Israel has decided to withhold taxes collected for the Palestinian Authority that were to be transferred later in the month. Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz made the announcement Sunday morning at the weekly government Cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

EU ups its pledges to €200M aid for the Palestinians

EU to double its aid package to PA; development funds earmarked for infrastructure & rehabilitation

The European Union will double its aid for Palestinian development and the Palestinian Authority to €200 million in 2012, the EU executive said on Friday.

The development aid will be focused on water, sanitation and support for refugees. A further €100 million aid credits unspent last year will be also spent in 2012, the European Commission said in a statement.

“The decision shows our commitment to help the people of Palestine in the areas which are vital to their everyday lives,” said Stefan Fuele, EU commissioner for enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy. Continue Reading »

Ayalon: Israel will reject Abbas’ request for PA economic accord review

Abbas requests a review of the 1994 Paris Protocol amid pressure from protesters to cancel PA-Israeli economic agreement.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon on Monday said that Israel will reject Palestinian requests to update the 1994 Paris Protocol, the framework that established economic relations between Israel and the PA, Israel Radio reported.

Palestinians have huge debts to Israel, and yet they are operating against it in international organizations, Ayalon said.

“There is no room to fix it when there is no progress in the political channel, and the Palestinians have huge debts to Israel for transferring gas and electricity, for example,” he said.

Historian Benny Morris: Arab Hate the Obstacle to Peace

The Arab goal of destroying Israel in the name of Islam is the obstacle to Israeli-Arab peace, says conflict historian.

 

The main obstacle to Israeli-Arab peace is the Palestinian nationalist movement’s fanaticism and refusal to compromise, historian Benny Morris has said.

Morris, who was once numbered among Israel’s most staunchly left-wing academics, told Haaretz, “The decades of researching the conflict… left me with a feeling of deep despair,” he said. “I’ve written enough about a conflict that has no solution, primarily due to the Palestinians’ consistency in rejecting a two-state solution.”

He mentioned his most recent book, “One State, Two States,” which, he said, describes a “historic journey” with a political purpose. Continue Reading »

Palestinians protest cost of living by taking to streets

Due to ailing economy, self immolation incidents sweep across the PA in wave of social protests.

Israelis are not the only ones protesting price hikes and a general increase in the cost of living: Palestinians across the West Bank protested on Tuesday against the rising price of petrol, while police forces attempted to restore order.

Fuad Shubaki, the general director of the Palestinian Petroleum Corporation, recently announced that the Palestinian Authority is looking into the possibility of importing petrol from other countries in coordination with Israel.

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas frequently refers to the “alleged” Jewish Temple, but if it was not Jewish, there is no basis for Christian belief, as written in the New Testament in Matthew (21:12), that Jewish “moneychangers” chased Jesus from the Holy Temple. However, Christians so far have not reacted to the implicit denial of their belief.

PA Electric Company: Theft is leading Us to Bankruptcy

The Palestinian Authority Electric Company intimidated by  “refugee camp” residents.

 

 

The Palestinian Authority Electric Company has complained that theft is driving it bankrupt. The company owes the Israel Electric Company 423 million shekels, largely due to 550 million shekels of unpaid bills from its customers.

Electric Company officials called a press conference urging PA leaders to stop the theft, and require those living in “refugee camp” neighborhoods to pay their bills. Workers are afraid to go into the notoriously violent “camp” neighborhoods to collect, they said.

The Palestinian Authority is against the moment of silence at the Olympics to commemorate the Israeli athletes murdered at the Munich Olympics in 1972. According to the headline in the official PA daily, “Sports are meant for peace, not for racism.”

The 11 members of the Israeli Olympic Delegation that were murdered by Palestinian terrorists.

According to Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Olympic Committee:

“Sports are meant for peace, not for racism… Sports are a bridge to love, interconnection, and spreading of peace among nations; it must not be a cause of division and spreading of racism between them [nations].”

Hamas Considering to Declare Gaza a Sovereign Country

Banking on Egyptian support, Hamas may declare Gaza an independent country, a Brittish Arab language newspaper reports.

Hamas is banking on Egyptian support to declare Gaza an independent state and “a liberated part of the ’67 territories,” the London-based Al Hayat Arab language paper reported Sunday.

Hamas has been tossing around the idea for two years, but Egypt has rejected the move.
