Do the Palestinians actually deserve a state of their own?

Op-ed: All the regional Arab countries have been unsuccessful in their attempts at annihilating Israel militarily, but their lust to have Israel eliminated has never diminished.

By Dan Calic

With President Obama coming to Israel soon, let me ask what some consider a rhetorical question- do the Palestinians actually deserve a state of their own?

Rally in Hebron ahead of UN vote

Obama and most of the international community think they do. Yet if we take a closer look at the situation there are serious issues which should not be ignored. For example, would it be a peaceful, productive neighbor with Israel? This can best be answered by reviewing some guiding principles of the PLO and Fatah, which is the dominant political party of which Mahmoud Abbas is chairman. Continue Reading »

Is Abbas the last PA president?

With the fading significance of the Palestinian cause those concerned with peace may need to consider contingency plans for a West Bank without Abbas.

After Israel’s most recent military operation in Gaza, which ended with a cease-fire, Hamas has been claiming victory and enjoying popularity with the Palestinians, which comes as a setback for Hamas’s rivals; Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah faction.

Abbas has always played both sides

In his new book, Dr. Shaul Bartal explains in detail how Fatah & the other Palestinian groups have a common goal — Israel’s destruction. The difference between terror organizations & “moderate” Abbas, as shown by Palestinian Media Watch, is only in the way they speak, but not in the way they think, nor in their actions.

By Nadav Shragai

Although the scene I am about to describe was watched by viewers of Palestinian television 33 times over the past 22 years, Israeli viewers never saw it even once. A Palestinian singer in a suit and tie performed in a packed auditorium for a Fatah event, sweeping the audience with enthusiasm as he sang a song that promised “to stand behind Abu Mazen [PA President Mahmoud Abbas] until Judgment Day and return to our pure soil from Rafah to Rosh Hanikra and Beit She’an, from Haifa to Tantura [Dor Beach] and the borders of the Jordan Valley.”

Dore Gold: A code of conduct is nessecery for the Middle East

A code of conduct or a set of rules would either promote a real peace process or provide a clear measure for indicating that the Palestinian leadership continues to violate commitments. Issues must be addressed: incitement to violence, providing sanctuary to terrorist organizations, or halting hostile initiatives in int’l bodies such as the U.N.

By Dore Gold

In 1996, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan convened an international forum at the Hashimiyya Palace in Amman with guests from the entire Middle East as well as noted statesmen from outside the region. As a newly appointed foreign policy adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, I found myself invited to one of these events.
