A Ukrainian wounded on the streets of Kiev in clashes between protesters and police arrived for treatment in Israel on Wednesday and six more expected were to arrive Thursday, according to a report by Walla news website.

Surgeons at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot will attempt in the next couple of days to reconstruct the crushed and shrapnel-ridden hand of 20-year-old Alexander S., the first Ukrainian to arrive in Israel after riots and demonstrations that brought down the country’s president.

Sheba Medical Center save Syrian refugee boy’s life in heart surgery

 

First time ever: 4 yr-old Syrian boy with a rare heart condition undergoes life-saving surgery at Israel’s Sheba Medical Center.

After the successful surgery, the boys father was quoted as saying, “The Israeli doctors saved his life and I am happy to have met this country.”

Israeli medical personnel delivered 12 babies in the Philippines

The 12 babies, most premature, were delivered in Israel’s field hospital. The newborns are being cared for in incubators brought by the IDF as part of their field hospital.

 

 

JERUSALEM — At least 12 babies, most premature, have been delivered in Israel’s field hospital in the Philippines — including one named Israel.

The hospital is seeing about 300 patients a day, many injured in last week’s Typhoon Haiyan or unable to care for chronic conditions due to lack of running water or electricity.  The premature babies are being cared for in incubators brought by the Israel Defense Forces as part of the field hospital.

Since the IDF delegation to the Philippines landed last Thursday, the unit has treated over 370 wounded – 150 of them children – in a hospital in the city of Bogo.

IDF doctors at Bogo’s hospital have performed operations, used advanced medical equipment, and overseen 5 births – including one Cesarean section and one birth where the mother went into labor en route to the hospital.

Provincial governor Hilario Davide III visited the hospital Saturday to tour the grounds, meet the medical staff, and thank Israel for sending the medical team to the country, which was hammered by Typhoon Heiyan last week. Continue Reading »

IDF sends 148-member team, field hospital & 100 tons of aid to Philippines

IDF officers from the National Search & Rescue Unit of the Home Front Command plus senior doctors from the IDF Medical Corps are part of the Israeli team.

 

JERUSALEM — The Israel Defense Forces has sent a 148-member humanitarian delegation to the Philippines to provide search-and-rescue and medical services to areas hard hit by Typhoon Haiyan.

The team left Israel on Wednesday equipped with a field hospital as well as about 100 tons of humanitarian and medical supplies, according to the IDF.

IDF field hospital sent to the Philippines

 

The Foreign Ministry announced that Israel would send a search & rescue team with experience in searching damaged buildings, as well as medical staff and a field hospital.

 

 

The IDF will send a humanitarian mission to assist victims of the Typhoon in the Philippines, army sources said.

Israel sent its first advance team of 7 medical professionals to the storm-ravaged Philippines on Saturday night seeking to understand and evaluate scale of injury.

The IsraAID humanitarian organization sent a team of 7 medical professionals to Tacloban City in the storm-ravaged Philippines on Saturday night.

“It’s really hard to get any accurate numbers as far as [the scale of the] damage is concerned,” IsraAID founding director Shahar Zahavi said. “Since the area is so hard to reach right now, there’s a lot of doubt about the actual statistics. It’ll take a few days, but right now the most I can say is that people are comparing it to the 2004 [Indian Ocean] tsunami” that killed 230,000 to 280,000 in 14 countries.

IDF reports Israeli emergency responders heading to Philippines

1st responders are medical professionals, trauma & relief specialists. A larger team is expected to land by the end of the week, according to IsraAid.

 

 

JERUSALEM — The Israeli disaster relief organization IsraAid is sending an emergency response team to the Philippines to the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Haivan.

The team of medical professionals and trauma and relief specialists are scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on Monday, working primarily in Tacloban City in Leyte. A larger team is expected to land by the end of the week, according to IsraAid.

The death toll in the typhoon, which made landfall in the central Philippines on Friday, could be at least 10,000, according to reports that emerged Sunday, citing local officials.
