Egyptian Report: Hamas refused to smuggle missiles with tracking devices

 

The espionage components detected inside the rockets were of an unknown source, and expressed fears that Egyptians working in the arms smuggling trade may be targeted, an Egyptian news website reported Monday.

Hamas refused to receive a shipment of missiles that were smuggled into the Gaza Strip from Libya across the Sinai desert, after it was discovered that they contained espionage and surveillance devices which would enable Israel to track the missiles, an Egyptian news web site reported Monday.

The site, Youm7.com [Seven Days] quoted “informed sources” close to the people smuggling the weapons shipment across Sinai, saying that 28 long-range missiles were moved during the past few days from Libya via desert routes until it got to the mountainous areas in central Sinai.

Thursday’s Updates of Israel’s reported strike on the Syria-Lebanon border

The target of the IAF attack was apparently an arms convoy moving from Syria to Lebanon, but it is still not clear exactly where the strike occurred because of contradicting reports, or whether the SA-17 Missile cache also included chemical weapons.

International media reported Wednesday that Israel launched an overnight air strike on Lebanon’s border with Syria, after carrying out four separate flyover missions in Lebanese air space.

The arms, intercepted aboard the ship in Yemeni territorial waters in the Arabian Sea last Wednesday, included surface-to-air missiles, potent explosives and rocket-propelled grenades, a U.S. official and Yemen’s government announced Monday.

Egypt Security busts massive explosives caché headed for Gaza, largest one yet

Truck carrying a full ton of explosives, the largest single haul discovered by Egyptian Police, was intercepted.
A total of 5 tons of explosives as well as disassembled rockets & automatic weapons were seized in the past 3 months, according to local media reports.

A senior Egyptian intelligence official in northern Sinai said Monday the the military foiled an attempted car bombing near a church and a military camp along the Egypt-Gaza border.

3 Attempts to Smuggle Weapons into Gaza Foiled by Egypt

Sources: On 3 occasions since Operation Pillar of Defense, Egypt has prevented the smuggling of weapons into Gaza.

Western sources have revealed that Egypt has prevented three instances of large-scale smuggling of weapons into Gaza since the end of Operation Pillar of Defense, the Israel Defense website reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the activity against the weaponry smuggling is part of Egyptian-U.S. coordination, agreed upon in the discussions involving Secretary of State Hillary Clinton two days before the end of the operation.

Western sources said that the agreement includes assistance with U.S. technological measures made available for Egyptian use, and intelligence cooperation in order to counter the smuggling of weapons. Continue Reading »

Egyptian Army Intercepts Rockets being Smuggled to Gaza

Egyptian Armed forces in the Sinai foiled an attempt to smuggle 17 rockets to Gaza.

Armed Forces personnel in North Sinai, in cooperation with local Bedouins, foiled an attempt on Monday to smuggle 17 rockets to Gaza, the Egyptian state news agency MENA reported.

A military source told the agency that the rockets are a French-made TDI model, caliber 68 mm, range three kilometers and can be used air to land or land to land.

The Armed Forces have been engaged in an ongoing mission to secure the Sinai Peninsula and borders with Gaza and Israel, said MENA. Continue Reading »
