Customs inspectors caught a Jordanian diplomat red handed trying to sneak dozens of kilograms of gold and hundreds of smartphones into Israel, in a near identical incident to a smuggling attempt in the car of a European Union (EU) representative just a month ago.

In the thwarted smuggling on Sunday, Israeli inspectors at the Allenby Bridge Crossing on the Jordan border near Jericho found the illegal goods in the private car of a Jordanian diplomat who serves at the Jordanian embassy, as he crossed in to Israel.
The hundreds of smartphones, undeclared gold bouillon, & illegal drugs were discovered by customs officials as the European Union diplomat and his driver attempted an impromptu entry into Israel from Jordan.

According to a Defense News report, Palestinian presidential bodyguards refused entry to an IDF special unit when seeking to traverse restricted area adjacent to Abbas’ private residence.

Prime Minister Benjamin Nanyahu offered a personal apology to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas earlier this week after IDF troops engaged in a tense standoff with the rais’ personal security detail just outside his home in Ramallah during a nighttime arrest raid, according to an Internet report.
