Egyptian Army Floods Hamas Tunnels From Gaza

Egyptian forces flooded smuggling tunnels dug beneath the Gaza-Egypt border, in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, on Friday Palestinian witnesses said.

The authorities used pipes to pump water from the Mediterranean Sea in an apparent effort to curb the use of the underground passages.

Tunnel workers attempted to remove the water.

A Palestinian Arab man was killed and another wounded by Israeli gunfire in the northern Gaza Strip Friday after they approached the border with Israel, a medical official told the AFP news agency.

Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said 27-year-old Mohammad Al-Masri died of his wounds after being shot near the border fence west of the Beit Lahiya area.

A new tunnel detection system developed by Elbit Systems will protect Israeli citizens from the threat of infiltration by Hamas terrorists.

Now, after two months of development, the Israel-based international defense electronics company says that they have created an effective system which uses sensors to detect tunnel building activity. The system will be implemented along the entire Israel-Gaza border, Elbit said.

For the second time in as many weeks, Israeli security forces on Monday thwarted an attempt to smuggle unauthorized equipment — including advanced communication gadgets — into the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing. The prohibited items were suspected to be en route to terrorist groups within the Gaza Strip.

IDF open fire on violent Palestinians protesting near Israel’s border fence with Gaza

The IDF has reportedly opened fire on a group of Palestinian protesters who approached the border fence between Gaza Strip and Israel.

The incident, which has not yet been confirmed by the IDF, followed reports of a Hamas-backed protest held earlier in Gaza decring the Israeli-Egyptian blockade on Gaza.

The march was attended by Hamas’ Gaza leader Isamil Haniyeh who demanded the world free Gaza from the siege.

According to Palestinian reports, a group of protesters neared the Erez Crossing border terminal, crossing the Palestinian checkpoint from the Gazan side of the border. Continue Reading »

IDF Soldiers Kill Palestinian Infiltrator at Gaza Border, Wounding Another

One Palestinian inadvertently killed, the second infiltrator wounded by IDF warning shots; thus far, 12 infiltration attempts from Gaza this month.

Two Palestinian Arabs crossed the border fence from Gaza into Israeli illegally, the IDF stated Sunday afternoon, forcing the IDF to open fire.

One of the Palestinians – identified by Gaza emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra as Fadel Mohammed Halawa, 32 – was shot dead inadvertently; another was injured in the lower half of his body and was taken for medical treatment.

The IDF clarified Sunday afternoon that the soldiers on duty at the border had merely fired warning shots into the air as is IDF protocol when warning off infiltrators.

Palestinian media reported on Wednesday that a Gazan man in his twenties was injured by IDF fire in the Strip’s Beit Lahiya area.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Office said it identified two Palestinians approaching the security fence in the northern part of the border. When they did not adhere to warning calls to stop in their tracks, Israeli soldiers opened fire at the legs of the Gaza residents, the army said, confirming a direct hit.

Egypt military destroys 13 more Hamas tunnels on its border

 

As the IDF works to destroyed terror-tunnels leading into Israel, Egypt continues in its own battle against Hamas’ underground smuggling network into the Sinai.

Egypt’s army said Sunday it has destroyed 13 more tunnels connecting the Sinai Peninsula to the Gaza Strip, taking to 1,639 the overall number it has laid waste to.

Cairo has poured troops into the peninsula to counter a rising insurgency since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last year, and its security operation involves the destruction of these tunnels.

Hamas Claims IDF Wounded 2 Gazans in Separate Clashes

Israeli army spokesperson unit confirms IDF troops fired at a man in Gaza approaching the security fence with Israel, but not aware of other incident.

Hamas officials say two men were wounded in separate clashes with the IDF Saturday.

Gaza’s healthy ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra claimed a 16-year-old youth was shot near the security barrier with Israel in Khan Yunis, according to AFP.

He also claimed a 36-year-old fisherman was shot while he was aboard his boat in the Mediterranean off Gaza City.
