Palestinian leader Abbas has activist & reporter arrested after call for his resignation

Palestinian journalist Ayman Qawasmi, and human rights activist Issa Amro, were reportedly arrested after their Facebook posts calling on the Palestinian autocrat Mahmoud Abbas to resign, since he finished his presidential term a decade ago.
• Amnesty International calls Amro’s arrest “a shameless attack on freedom of expression.”

Palestinian security forces have detained a prominent activist and a journalist after they called for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to resign.

Abbas whining again: Trump purports to supports settlement freeze to him, but mum to Netanyahu

With White House emissaries arriving this week to begin talks, Palestinian autocrat Abbas is becoming increasingly frustrated as he maintains how Israeli construction of new homes in Jewish West Bank communities are the main obstacle to peace, but can’t get Trump to agree publicly, as the past president was so keen to do.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told Israeli politicians that the Donald Trump administration believes in ending settlement construction and the two-state solution but refuses to publicly say so.

Abbas told members of the left-wing Meretz party that he found the administration’s policy incomprehensible.

“I have met with Trump’s emissaries to the Middle East about 20 times since the beginning of his tenure, and they repeatedly emphasized to me how much they believe in and are committed to the two-state solution and to the cessation of construction in the settlements,” Abbas said. Palestinian autocrat Abbas praises North Korean dictator on ‘Liberation Day’

According to a Palestinian Media Watch report, the PA leader showered congratulations and praises on Kim Jong-Un, wishing  him “all health and happiness,” for Korea’s Liberation Day.

Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas today sent congratulations to the ruler of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un, in honor of the country’s Liberation Day,  (PMW) reported. In the statement released by WAFA, the official PA news agency, Abbas wished Jong-un “all health and happiness.”

Palestinian sources claim Israel forcing Abbas to stay put in Ramallah

 

A Palestinian source claims Abbas’s inability to exit the West Bank is not the result of his cancelling all security cooperation with Israel (as alleged by Abbas’s spokesmen and advisors), but rather stems from Israeli sanctions imposed on the Palestinian leader after “failures” regarding Abbas’ incitement during the Temple Mount incident.

Palestinian Autocrat Mahmoud Abbas Terminates Contacts With Israel

 

PA chairman announces he’s freezing all contacts “with the occupation state on all levels” because of the metal-detectors placed at the Temple Mount entrance, which he claims are “falsely presented as a security measure to take control over Al-Aqsa mosque.”

Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced on Friday he was freezing contacts with Israel over its new security measures at the Temple Mount.

Abbas said in a speech that the freeze would stay in place until Israel lifted the measures, reported the AFP news agency.

“I, on behalf of the Palestinian leadership, announce… a freeze of all contacts with the occupation state on all levels until Israel commits to cancelling all the measures against our Palestinian people in general and Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque in particular,” Abbas announced, to applause from Palestinian officials. Although Gaza’s 2 million residents are already receiving 3-4 hours of power a day, Israel abides by the Palestinian leader’s decision to cut the power, rather than having the Israeli public cover Gaza’s electricity bill.
