Arab MKs address letter to visiting secretary of state to intervene on Bedouin’s behalf, calling Praver plan, ‘ethnic cleansing’

Some 800 demonstrators gathered outside the Beersheba court to protest a plan to resettle Bedouins in the Negev and the arrest of protesters in the Hura Junction on Saturday.

“Free the detainees!” the protesters chanted. Large police forces are at the scene.

Meanwhile, members of the United Arab List Ta’al party addressed a letter to visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry in which they stated that the Praver plan for Bedouin resettlement amounts to “ethnic cleansing” and asked his immediate assistance. Continue Reading »

In the aftermath of Saturday’s protests against the Praver Bill, President Shimon Peres said Sunday that the plan to resettle Bedouins in the Negev must be pursued.

“Millions of shekels were invested in this plan and I’m sure the intentions are good. Backing down would mean a step back for the Bedouins as well,” Peres said.

The president, on a visit to Mexico, noted that “one might expect this having great resistance, but the law must be abided and diplomacy utilized… The government does not mean any harm and talks must be held with patience and while maintaining the law.” Continue Reading »

On Saturday night amid a “day of rage” in which mass protests opposed the “Prawer-Begin Plan” to organize illegal Bedouin settlement in the Negev, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Likud-Beytenu) called the violent protests “serious albeit expected.”

At least 15 police officers were injured as over a thousand demonstrators threw stones and caused havoc in the Negev, while hundreds more protested in Haifa, Samaria and Gaza. Continue Reading »

Rabbi: Last Bedouin Attack Indicative of a Pattern of Violence

The latest attack, this time on a Jewish woman in the Negev, is part of a pattern of Bedouin violence, says former IDF Chief Rabbi .

An attack on a Jewish woman in the Negev on Monday was part of a greater pattern of Bedouin violence against Jews in the region, according to Rabbi Avichai Ronsky, a former IDF Chief Rabbi and former resident of the Negev.

On Monday, Bedouin men threw a massive stone at an Israeli woman’s car as she drove near Kfar Retamim. “She was a hair’s breadth away from serious injury,” Rabbi Ronsky told Arutz Sheva. Continue Reading »

1,500 year-old mosaic unearthed near Kibbutz Beit Kama

The 15 century old mosaic, preserved in good condition & traced to between the 4th & 5th centuries C.E., “is unique due to the large number of motifs incorporated together,” says Dr. Yigal Yisrael from the Israel Antiquities Authority.

400 Police officers raid criminals’ homes in Negev

6 guns, 2 rifles, 5 stolen vehicles, $82,000 in cash, 420 gas balloons & IDF bullet-proof vests seized in one of Southern Police District’s biggest-ever raids.

At the crack of dawn on Wednesday, over 400 police officers raided the homes of suspected weapons and stolen property-holders in the Negev. This was one of the biggest campaigns known to the Southern Police District.

The raid occurred in a number of Bedouin towns and in the surrounding area. Throughout the campaign, five stolen vehicles, NIS 300,000 ($82,000) in cash, six guns, two rifles, 420 purportedly stolen gas balloons and IDF bullet-proof vests were discovered. Continue Reading »

Negev to become ‘aircraft graveyard’?

A new plan to form an aircraft maintenance and disposal facility in southern Israel has been greenlighted by the Israel Land Administration and the Eilot Regional Council.

The future compound, which will be built near Ovda, will stretch across 642.5 acres and serve an as aircraft maintenance and disposal facility for Airpark Ltd.The company is expected to store some 500 aircrafts and airplane parts in the facility and perform maintenance on both civilian and military planes from all over the world; including scrapping about 25 planes a year. Gaza terrorists attacked the western Negev with five mortar shells around noon Tuesday, lowering the intensity of attacks but breaking the ceasefire.

The attacks are seen as an attempt to maintain “calm,” which previously has been defined as a situation in which missiles are not fired on urban areas while primitive Kassam rockets and mortar shells are fired at the farming area of the western Negev.

They also provide an immediate test for Israel hours after IDF Chief of Benny Gantz said that the military would maintain quiet if terrorists silence their weapons but will “fight fire with fire” if not. Continue Reading »
