Gaza soccer stadium bombed, weapons cache hit

IDF says multiple weapons hidden under grass in Gaza Strip stadium, where long-range rockets were fired from

IAF aircraft bombed the Gaza Strip’s soccer stadium on Sunday night, after long-range rockets were fired from the site towards Israel. The facility also served as a weapons cache, the IDF said.

The IDF said over 80 targets were attacked in the Strip overnight, including hidden launchers, tunnels and training camps. Great damage was caused to the terror organizations’ weapons depositories.

Israel has delivered an ultimatum to Hamas through Egypt, according to which the IDF will widen its offensive in Gaza in 36 hours unless Hamas ceases firing rockets and smuggling arms into Gaza, IDF Radio reported Monday morning.

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz told the station that the time left before Israel steps up its attack can be measured in “hours, not days.”

“We are at a junction,” he said. “Either we go toward a calm or toward a meaningful widening of the operation… including a possible move to achieve complete military decision.” Continue Reading »

Terrorists in the Gaza strip renewed their fire Monday morning after a relatively quiet night on the Israeli front, setting off the red alerts in southern towns. A total of seven rockets landed in open fields outside Eshkol and Sha’ar Hanegev, causing no injuries or damage, Army Radio reported.

The Iron Dome anti-missile system has successfully intercepted most of the rockets fired at Israel since the beginning of Operation Pillar of Defense. Found: Unexploded Rocket on Roof of Building

Apparently, the rocket had become fused with the tar on the roof, and defusing it would have required excessively moving it, which could have caused the missile to explode.

BEIRUT: Hamas has the capacity to engage militarily in a ground operation with Israel, should the Jewish State decide to launch one, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said over the weekend.

The Iron Dome intercepted two long-range rockets fired at Tel Aviv on Sunday evening. No injuries or damage was reported, police say.

Hamas claimed responsibility for firing at the city.

It was the second strike on Israel’s commercial capital on Sunday. In the earlier attack, one person was hurt by falling debris from a rocket that was intercepted south of the city.

Report: Netanyahu assured Obama Israel not planning ground assault

The Daily Beast reports Israeli PM assured US president Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza will happen only if Hamas escalates rocket fire.

WASHINGTON – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave private assurances to US President Barack Obama on Friday evening that Israel was not planning at that moment to launch a ground offensive in Gaza, The Daily Beast news website reported.

According to the report, which was published early on Sunday, Netanyahu told Obama that those plans would change if Hamas escalated its rocket war.

A number of rockets targeted the South Sunday morning after a several-hour reprieve from rocket fire overnight Saturday as the IDF targeted dozens of sites in the Gaza Strip. One rocket struck a building in Ashkelon Sunday morning, lightly injuring one person and causing serious damage to the building.

100 Gaza Rockets Fell Short, Never Left Gaza

While Gaza’s terrorists have fired hundreds of rockets and missiles into Israel over the past few days, quite a few have landed in Gaza itself.

According to statistics published by the IDF on Saturday night as the fourth day of Operation Pillar of Defense ended, 824 rockets have been fired at Israel, 243 of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system. 100 of those rockets have landed in Gaza.
