Palestinian man lost ability to talk after being tortured by Abbas’ PA

Independent Commission for Human Rights cites over 28 cases of torture last month in Abbas’ West Bank prisons & another 23 complaints of torture from Hamas police force in the Gaza Strip.

A Palestinian man who was detained by the Palestinian Authority security forces in Hebron has lost the ability to speak as a result of severe torture, according to a report released by the Independent Commission for Human Rights.

Mohamed Abdel Karim Dar of Hebron was hospitalized after being tortured while in detention, the report, which documented 28 cases of torture in PA prisons in the West Bank last month, said.

Defense Minister Yaalon ‘Freezes’ New City Construction Near Jericho

Yaalon stops a new PA city being planned that would have encroached onto 500 acres of Israeli land outside it’s jurisdiction.

Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon has frozen a plan to build a new Palestinian Authority Arab city which would have taken away 2,000 dunams of Israeli land, the Ma’ariv daily reported on Tuesday.

Yaalon’s decision came a day after the same newspaper reported that the Civil Administration for Judea and Samaria is working diligently on advanced plans for establishing a new PA city near Jericho.

PA Warns Int’l Community about cleric’s ‘Fake Palestinian Passport’

The Palestinian Authority asks world countries to take legal action and seize the fake ‘Palestine’ passport given by Hamas to the Muslim cleric Yousef al-Qaradawi.

The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Interior put out a notice on Friday, informing countries that recognize “Palestine” that radical Muslim cleric Yousef al-Qaradawi holds a “fake” Palestinian passport, according to the Ma’an news agency.

In a letter, the ministry called on all countries to take legal action to seize the passport if it is used contrary to international law.

US & PA condemn Israeli plans for building 296 homes in Beit El

Palestinian Authority says continued building of Jewish homes could sabotage US efforts to revive peace process.

The Palestinian Authority and the US on Thursday condemned Israel’s decision to advance plans to build 296 homes in the West Bank Beit El settlement, warning that it could sabotage American efforts to revive the frozen peace talks.

“We see this decision as a message to the US Administration and a blow to the peace process,” said PA presidency spokesman Nabil Abu Rdaineh.

Was PM Fayyad coerced into denying criticizing PA in New York Times interview?

Outgoing Palestinian PM Salam Fayyad, who was quoted slamming the PA leadership, says he was misled by the NYT correspondent.

Salam Fayyad has denied criticizing the Palestinian Authority leadership in an interview with the New York Times.

In a statement published on Saturday by the Palestinian Wafa news agency, the prime minister’s office said that Fayyad “did not make any statements or conduct any interviews for the New York Times or any other newspaper or agency since his resignation.”

In an article published on Friday titled “Fayyad steps down, not out,” New York Times correspondent and columnist Roger Cohen quotes Fayyad as saying: “Our story is a story of failed leadership, from way early on… It is incredible that the fate of the Palestinian people has been in the hands of leaders so entirely casual, so guided by spur-of-the-moment decisions… we hold ourselves hostage to our own rhetoric.” Continue Reading »

It was actually Fayyad successes that eventually led to his downfall. His relative popularity, vision & effective management meant he was a threat to too many people.

 

The resignation of Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Saturday is a dramatic development. Its ramifications won’t just reverberate in the part of the West Bank under Palestinian control, but also affect Israel and the Obama administration’s efforts to renew the peace process, as well as, the European Union’s policy towards the Palestinians.

Titled “Water For One People Only: Discriminatory Access and ‘Water-Apartheid’ in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” the report is a product of the Ramallah-based non-governmental organization Al-Haq.

The document slams Israel for providing “discriminatory access” to water and enacting “water apartheid” policies that result in the 500,000 Israelis in the West Bank and east Jerusalem receiving six times the amount of water that the 2.6 million Palestinians in the same area do.

Reuters: Palestinian PM Salam Fayyad tenders resignation

Sources report that Palestinian PM Fayyad offered his resignation to PA President Abbas on Wednesday.

Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad offered his resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday following a rift between the two men over government policy, two sources told Reuters.

Abbas was due to return to the West Bank from Jordan on Thursday, and it was not immediately clear whether he would accept the resignation of the U.S.-educated economist.

A spokeswoman at Fayyad’s office declined to comment on the reports, which followed persistent rumors that Abbas wanted to sack Fayyad following internal political wrangling. Continue Reading »

Complains of Financial Crisis, but PA Pays Salaries to Jailed Terrorists

Despite constant complaining that it is suffering from a severe financial crisis, the Palestinian Authority sees its commitment of paying ‘salaries/pensions’ to terrorists in Israeli prisons at $55.5 million a year a top priority.

The Palestinian Authority, despite complaining constantly that it is suffering from a severe financial crisis, is continuing to provide monthly payments to terrorists serving time in Israeli prisons, the Makor Rishon newspaper reported Friday. This is not the first time that the enormous salaries the PA pays terrorists have been exposed.

According to Friday’s report, which was based on data collected by the research department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, at least 4% of the PA government’s budget is allocated for terrorists’ salaries. Continue Reading »

ICC rejects Palestinian bid to investigate Israeli war crimes during Operation ‘Cast Lead’
