PA to US official: PA books not perfect, but working on teaching mutual respect

 

Democratic Whip says the US will not want to fund Palestinian schools after PLO representative admits there’s unfair portrayal of Jews in PA curriculum.

 

 

 

No group on earth has been subjected to more discrimination and hate than the Jews, and the US will not fund curriculum in the Palestinian Authority that does not teach tolerance and mutual respect, US Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) said on Wednesday.

Hoyer, leading a massive delegation of 36 Democratic US congressman, said this issue was the first one he broached during a meeting Wednesday in Ramallah with PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat.

Abbas’ PA Pirate Radio Stations’ Signals Interfere at Israel’s Ben Gurion Int’l Airport

Palestinian Authority’s pirate radio stations are unregulated and dangerously interfering with Ben Gurion Int’l Airport’s air tower communication network.

Signals from Palestinian Authority pirate radio stations are interfering with the air tower communication network at Ben Gurion International Airport.

Officials from the Israel Airports Authority turned to the Ministry of Communications on Sunday, asking that the source of the interference be tracked down.

All radio transmissions are regulated by law; unauthorized signals are subject to termination, and their operators can be charged with in connection with the broadcast.

Pirate broadcast signals also interfere with reception of Israeli radio stations throughout Judea and Samaria (Yehuda and Shomron), as well as broadcast signals in the northern Negev region. Continue Reading »

Foreign Ministry to Kerry: Pre-’67 borders as basis for talks contravenes US commitments

 

Alan Baker says any US guarantee to the Palestinians over borders violate a US promise previously written to Israel.

 

 

Any US guarantee to the Palestinians that the upcoming negotiations with Israel will be based on the pre-1967 lines would be a violation of written US commitments given to then-prime minister Ariel Sharon, former Foreign Ministry legal adviser Alan Baker wrote in a letter sent this week to Secretary of State John Kerry.

The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has put together a list of sanctions that it could impose on the Palestinian Authority (PA) if it does not pay its debt to the IEC, which currently stands at 820 million shekels.

The PA acquires 95% of its electricity in Judea and Samaria and 75% of its electricity in Gaza from Israel.

Nablus father ‘scared to death’ after Palestinian police arrest son

A 62-year-old Palestinian man from Nablus died of a heart attack on Saturday shortly after Palestinian Authority security forces arrested his son.

The man, Sa’di al-Sakhel, suffered a massive heart attack after security agents belonging to the Preventive Security Force arrested his son, Musab.

The son was released immediately after the father was pronounced dead at the Al-Arabi Hospital in Nablus.

A PA security source said that Musab was suspected of membership in Hamas.

Arabs say ‘No’ to Israel’s Western Wall plans for egalitarian prayer-site

PA religious affairs minister says replacing Mugrabi Bridge to Temple Mount for egalitarian section may “push all of us to new conflicts and problems,” stressing the Western Wall is an Islamic holy site.

Palestinian Authority security forces on Monday arrested Palestinian journalist George Canawati, director of Bethlehem Radio 2000, for reporting about a leaflet distributed by Fatah’s armed wing, Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.

The PA prosecutor-general ordered the arrest of Canawati for 48 hours.
Canawati is accused of reporting on his radio station about the leaflet, which attacked Bethlehem Mayor Vera Baboun, and called for her resignation.

Hussein Fayyad, one of the commanders of the terror group that carried out the 1978 Coastal Road massacre, revealed on Tuesday that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had appointed him as one of his advisers.

The attack, which led to the killing of 38 Israeli civilians, including 13 children, was planned and carried out by Abbas’s Fatah faction.

Fayyad, who was released in a prisoner swap with Israel in 1985, said that Abbas signed a decree in 2008 promoting him to the position of “advisor” to the PA president.
