Mere hours prior to the  beginning of the peace talks, leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine joined Hamas in rejecting negotiations, blaming US bias for past failures, opting for unilateral UN statehood bid instead.

In wake of Morsi’s fall, the PLO calls on Gazans to overthrow Hamas

The Palestinian Authority rejoices in Morsi’s fall, calling on Gazans to exploit situation and revolt against Hamas.

Palestinian Authority leaders on Thursday expressed joy over the downfall of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s regime, with some calling on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to follow suit and topple the Hamas government.

Meanwhile, Palestinian analysts predicted that the collapse of the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt would undermine Hamas, which in the past year has been emboldened by Morsi’s rise to power.

Palestinians condemn Israel for quitting the ultra-bias UNHRC

 

Canada & the U.S. lauds Jerusalem’s move to re-engage with the overtly anti-Israel United Nations Human Rights Council while Pakistan and the Palestinians cynically remain skeptical.

 

 

Palestinians attacked Israel as the only country to cut its ties with the United Nations Human Rights Council, in spite of Jerusalem’s efforts to resume those relations, during a Geneva debate on the matter Friday.

“Israel is the only state that has expressed its disengagement from the council,” the PLO deputy charge d’affairs Imad Zuhairi told the UNHRC.

Jerusalem cut is ties with the the UNHRC in March 2012 to protest council actions which it considers show a persistent bias against Israel.

The third annual Jerusalem marathon takes place Friday. Previous races have drawn thousands of runners from around the world and attracted international brands as sponsors.

Arabs: Keep Marathon Runners Away from Temple Mount

With the Jerusalem Marathon set to take place March 1, the Palestinian Authority is warning Israel not to use the race to “Judaize” the city, presenting it as a “unified capital of Israel,” said the chairman of the PLO’s action committee, Ahmed Qureia. Qureia is also the head of the “Al-Aqsa Department” in the PA, and on Sunday he warned Israel to ensure that marathoners stay away from the Temple Mount, where the mosque is located.

Hamas’ Mashaal to challenge Abbas for PLO presidency

Palestinian sources as saying Qatar & Jordan are pushing for Mashaal to chair PLO, according to ‘Al-Quds Al-Arabi’.

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal is seeking to take over the presidency of the PLO, currently chaired by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the London-based daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported on Monday.

According to the report, Mashaal’s desire to chair the PLO is behind his decision not to stand for reelection to his position as chairman of Hamas’s Political Bureau.

Al-Quds Al-Arabi quoted Palestinian sources as saying several Arab states, led by Jordan and Qatar, are pushing for Mashaal to chair the PLO as a way of getting Hamas to sign the Oslo Accords and recognize Israel.

PLO leader Farouk Kaddoumi, a founding member of the PLO, said the move would involve the establishment of a Jordanian-Palestinian confederation.

He supported the initiative, asserting that if the idea was brought to fruition it would result in a positive development.He stressed that the West Bank must remain Palestinian land, and that Jordan would need to assure full Palestinians rights, as well as the right of return.
