Sinai Islamists vow revenge for deadly IAF Gaza strikes

After Israel Air Force strikes kill 5 terrorists last weekend, including leader of al-Qaida-inspired terror-group, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdes vows revenge.

CAIRO – An Islamist group in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula bordering Israel said on Tuesday it will take revenge against the Jewish state for the killing of Palestinian terrorists in Gaza over the weekend.

“We, Ansar Bayt al-Maqdes group tell the Jews that the blood of our brothers in Palestine is ours and their revenge is ours… So wait for our painful reply and revenge,” the group said in a statement posted on Islamist websites.

Friday’s clash on the Israeli-Egyptian border that left one IDF soldier and three terrorists killed just proves how important was the decision a couple years ago to build the 24-kilometer fence along the Egyptian border that is now nearing completion, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday.

Netanyahu, speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting, said the fence – and the IDF activities along the fence – prevent not only the entrance of illegal migrants, but also the infiltration of terrorist cells.

Israel’s FM Rejects any Amendments to Peace Treaty with Egypt

Foreign Minister Lieberman dismissed any possibility of modifications to Israel’s 1979 peace treaty with Egypt.

Israel has rejected the idea of any modification to its 1979 peace treaty with Egypt.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman dismissed any possibility of altering the treaty during a radio interview in Israel Sunday morning. “There is not the slightest possibility that Israel will accept the modification of the peace treaty with Israel,” he said, according to AFP. “We will not accept any modification of the Camp David Accords.

The comments came as tensions rise between Egypt and Israel, with speculation the government of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood-backed President Mohammed Morsi is considering a plan to alter parts of the treaty. Continue Reading »

At least three people were hurt on Friday as dozens of armed terrorists, affiliated with the Salafi movement of Islam, stormed the international peacekeeping force base in the Sinai Peninsula, near the Gaza-Israel border. They were protesting the controversial film mocking the prophet Mohammed which has resulted in protests throughout the Arab world.

Egyptian police clashed with armed men in northern Sinai’s main town al-Arish, state television reported on Thursday, a day after security forces began a crackdown on Islamist militants in the region.

“Clashes resumed between armed men and police forces in front of police station number two in al-Arish,” Nile News television reported, citing its correspondent there.

The Egyptian army struck terrorist camps in the Sinai over the course of Tuesday night, killing an estimated 20 terrorists. The strikes followed a large-scale attack near Gaza on Sunday, where terrorists attacked Egyptian army posts and then attempted to enter Israel, and a shooting attack late Tuesday night in Al-Arish.

The army used combat helicopters to hit the camps. The counter-terror assault is the first time the Egyptian army has used missiles in Sinai since attacking Israel in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Continue Reading »
