HISTORIC: 🇸🇬 Singapore commits to opening embassy in Israel 🇮🇱

After decades of ‘good and special relations between the two countries’, Singapore and Israel sign Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to finally open an Embassy of Singapore in Israel.

Singapore will establish an embassy in Israel, as part of a series of agreements reached between the two governments, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Monday afternoon.

Vivian Balakrishan, Singapore’s Foreign Minister, traveled to Israel this week, meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Yair Lapid, on Monday.

Balakrishan also met with Israel’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Orit Farkash-Hacohen, with the two signing a memorandum of understanding on cross-border cooperation and on artificial intelligence. Continue Reading »

Singapore bans Palestinian film as “inflammatory,” causes “disharmony”

Organizers of the film festival in Singapore resonated the same message that Israel’s been claiming for years: ‘Palestinian media incites violence.’

Israel’s been complaining about ongoing Palestinian incitement to violence (in violation of the so-called “Oslo Accords”) for years. Now, it seems some in the international community are finally catching on to the problem.

In a positive sign of Israel’s expansion with new Asian alliances, Singapore’s Prime Minister, along with his wife, will be arriving in Jerusalem for an historic first visit.

Singapore seeks closer ties with Israel

Since both countries are high-tech nations with small populations, they have to turn to broader markets to expand and thrive.

 

Singapore is looking to increase its investments in Israel, and serve as a bridge to the wider Asian market.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem & the National University of Singapore are launching a joint advanced biomedical science degree.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem are launching a Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree program in biomedical science beginning in August 2013.
