U.S. to train rebels to bring about post-Assad Syria

White House spokesman says humanitarian assistance will be provided to the Syrian people & combat training will be offered to the Syrian opposition.

Lebanon: Nasrallah’s deputy injured in Syria road-side blast

Just days after relieving Nasrallah, who is reportedly being treated for his cancer in Iran, a Lebanese newspaper now quotes rebels as saying Hezbollah Deputy Chief Naim Qassem was injured, or even killed in convoy blast near Damascus.

The Free Syria Army (FSA) released a statement saying that Hezbollah‘s second in command Naim Qassem was injured in a convoy explosion together with high ranking Syrian officers.

IDF & Residents Ready for a possible ‘Volatile’ Golan Heights

The conflict in Syria has drawn many Druze residents of the Golan closer to Israel. More & more have requested Israeli citizenship.

The IDF is prepared for a new reality in the Golan as Syria continues to descend into chaos, Brigadier-General (ret.) Kobi Marom told Arutz Sheva.

“The IDF has prepared for the new reality that will be in the Golan,” he said. “There are fears of an escalation, and serious concern that if there is violence [in the region] the target will not be Assad.”

14 Hezbollah soldiers killed by rebels in past 2 days in battles over control of villages on Lebanese border

Hezbollah’s involvement in the Syrian civil war continues to grow. Syria’s main opposition group claimed Sunday that no less than 1,000 Hezbollah men have entered Syria in the past 24 hours.

At least two Hezbollah operatives and five rebels were killed in battles southwest of Homs. Earlier on Sunday, rebels claimed they killed 12 members of the Lebanese terrorist group on Saturday. Continue Reading »

7 hurt Syrians treated in Israeli Hospital

IDF confirms 7 Syrians hurt on Syrian Golan in battles between Syrian army & rebels, were taken to Ziv Medical Center in Safed.

Seven Syrians hurt in battles between Syrian army forces and rebels were taken to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed Saturday. One of the men is in critical condition.

“An IDF force administered medical care to the wounded men near the border fence and they were taken for further treatment,” a statement said.

Iran’s building militias in Syria as a foothold for when Assad falls

Senior U.S. & Arab sources quoted by the Washington Post report Iran & its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah, already have 50,000 soldiers inside Syria to support Assad’s regime, but also to ensure an Iranian foothold in Syria in case Assad should fall.

Israel to UNSC: Prevent Syrian WMD transfer to Hezbollah

UNITED NATIONS — Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor  said Tuesday that the prospect of Hezbollah acquiring chemical weapons — mishandled or handed over intentionally by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad  — is “frightening,” and called on the Security Council to act immediately to prevent their proliferation.

Prosor’s comments came during a daylong debate at the UN on counter-terrorism efforts. The Israeli envoy contended that an end to terrorism required addressing the fundamental teachings of prejudice and hate.

Iran Spying on Israel from Golan Heights

A recent U.S. report indicates Iran has established intelligence stations in several areas in the Middle East, including Syria’s Golan Heights.

Iran has been establishing signals intelligence stations in several parts of the Middle East, including the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the U.S.-based World Tribune reports.

The Defense Department has indicated that one of the intelligence stations was established in the Golan Heights, close to Syria’s border with Israel, the report said.

The Pentagon’s counter-terrorist support office said the stations were established by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps together with Tehran’s leading ally, Syria, according to the World Tribune. Continue Reading »

Hamas Reports: 885 Palestinians killed in Syrian conflict

Lebanon’s ‘Daily Star’ reports that 20,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria fled to Lebanon.

Eight hundred and eighty-five Palestinians have been killed in Syria since the uprising against President Bashar Assad erupted nearly two years ago, Lebanon’s Daily Star, citing a Hamas spokesman, reported Friday.

According to the report, based on Hamas figures, a further 20,500 Palestinian refugees from Syria remain trapped in Lebanon, including at least 3,500 who fled last month following a fierce outbreak of violence in the Yarmouk refugee camp outside Damascus.

Syria hosts an estimated half a million Palestinian refugees, and both Assad’s government and the mainly Sunni Muslim rebels have enlisted and armed Palestinians as the uprising has developed into a civil war.

Nasrallah: Syrian Civil War Could Partition Lebanon

A key ally of the embattled Syrian regime, Nasrallah made a televised appearance via video link and proclaimed: “We hereby underscore our rejection of any plan for partitioning or dividing any Arab or Islamic country in the entire Middle East region.

Report: US special forces preparing to join IDF elite operating in Syria

Israel’s real fear is that Syria’s chemical weapons will fall into the hands of the rebels, who are not the “good-guy freedom fighters” most in the West portray them to be.

Netanyahu went to Jordan for secret talks with the King on Syrian WMD

Just confirmed on Israel Channel 2 that Israel’s PM Netanyahu traveled to Jordan for secret talks with King Abdullah II on Syrian chemical weapons facilities.

 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret meeting in Jordan with King Abdullah II, the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported on Wednesday.

Seven people were killed in Homs’ rebel-held neighborhood of al-Bayyada when they inhaled a poisonous gas sprayed by Syrian Army forces, opposition activists told Al-Jazeera early Monday.
