Assad’s army destroying Palestinian camp to cleanse area of ISIS

UNRWA has expressed shock at the devastation of the once thriving Palestinian suburb of Damascus, with Yarmouk turned into a concrete jungle of destruction.
• Since “it’s [the] Assad regime [and not Israel] let’s keep the focus on ISIS,” an official at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies tweeted cynically.

For a week, the Syrian regime has bombarded the Palestinian refugee camp and neighborhood of Yarmouk in southern Damascus.

Fears have risen about the fate of the thousands trapped between infighting between the regime and armed groups such as Islamic State and Hayet Tahrir al-Sham, which captured most of the camp in 2015. Continue Reading »

Palestinian leadership wish it was Israel, not ISIS committing the beheadings in Yarmouk

Palestinians know that accusing Israel carries no risk, but their leadership is too frightened to confront ISIS, hence no action: not in the media, not at the UN, int’l courts, and especially, not on the battlefield.

The jihadists hordes of the Islamic State (ISIS) have captured most of the Yarmouk refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus, driving out thousands of Palestinian residents and brutally slaughtering many.

According to both Israeli and Palestinian media, fewer than 16,000 Palestinians now remain in the once bustling suburb. Those who remain have pleaded in vain for help from an international community that seems so engaged with the Palestinians, at least when Israel can be painted as the aggressor.

Activists say five people were killed in the Yarmouk camp Tuesday, including four who died when a shell struck their street and a fifth shot by a sniper.

The fighting pits gunmen loyal to President Bashar Assad against rebels, who now control much of the camp.

The camp was the scene of heavy clashes in the past, but the battles subsided last month after rebels battled the loyalists to a stalemate. Continue Reading »
