Only 3 Infiltrated through Egyptian Border so far in October

Three infiltrated in first 10 days of this month, compared to 1,309 in October 2011.

Only three people infiltrated into Israel through the southern border in the first ten days of October, according to official data communicated to journalists Wednesday.

The journalists were accompanying Interior Minister Eli Yishai on a tour of the Saharonim incarceration facility in the Negev.

In October of 2011, by comparison, a total of 1,309 people infiltrated through the border. This means the rate of infiltration has declined to less than 3% of what it was last year, largely thanks to the fence that has been erected along the border. Continue Reading »

Azerbaijan jailed 22 alleged Islamic radicals on Tuesday for plotting attacks on the U.S. and Israeli embassies in the ex-Soviet state in collaboration with neighboring Iran, a court in Baku said.

Azerbaijan frequently has been named as a country from which Israeli planes could fly to attack Iran in an effort to curtail its nuclear development program. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu calls for elections ‘as soon as possible’

PM Netanyahu announces elections, which could be as soon as January, because of  Knesset’s inability to pass “responsible” budget.

 

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ignited an expedited election campaign Tuesday night when he called for early elections to take place.

In a statement delivered at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said that after completing a round of meetings with his coalition partners, he concluded he could not pass the 2013 state budget and has no choice but to initiate elections.

“My obligation as prime minister is to put the national interest above all else, and therefore I decided that the good of Israel requires going to elections now, as soon as possible,” Netanyahu said.

Jerusalem Will Host 2015 Int’l Space Convention

 

Int’l Astronautic Federation to hold 2015 convention in Jerusalem; ‘Israel is an int’l power in the field,’ says Science & Technology Ministry

The International Astronautical Federation announced over the weekend, that Israel was chosen to host the 2015 annual Astronautic convention, during its congress meeting in Napoli, Italy.

The Israeli Space Agency’s proposal was favored by more than half of the federation member-nations, beating the Thai and Mexican proposals.

After numerous rocket attacks on southern Israel, IAF aircraft hit & destroy terror tunnel in northern Gaza

IAF aircraft hit a terror tunnel in northern Gaza on Tuesday night, the IDF spokesman said in a statement.

According to the statement, a direct hit was identified and all Israeli aircraft returned safely to their bases.

The attack came in response to high trajectory fire into Israeli territory, said the statement. Earlier Tuesday night, terrorists fired three Kassam rockets at southern Israel. One rocket hit the city of Netivot, while the two others fell in open areas of the Negev. Continue Reading »

Terrorist Rockets Continue to Strike Southern Israel

Latest intensive barrage of rocket attacks by Gaza’s Arab terrorists on southern Israel continued into Tuesday night

The latest intensive round of rocket attacks by Gaza Arab terrorists on southern Israel continued Tuesday night, as terrorists fired three Kassam rockets at the region. One rocket hit the city of Netivot, while the two others fell in open areas of the Negev. Miraculously, there were no injuries or damage reported. IDF troops were sweeping the targeted areas to gather parts of the exploded rockets.

Earlier Tuesday terrorists fired two rockets at southern Israel, one on Tuesday afternoon, and one at about 6:00 AM. Continue Reading »

French Jew share prestigious Nobel Prize in Physics

American David Winel & Moroccan Serge Haroche, of Moroccan origin, wins prize for groundbreaking advances in quantum systems.

Serge Haroche, a French-Jewish physicist, has won the Nobel Prize in Physics jointly with David Wineland from the United States.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2012 went to the scientists “for groundbreaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems,” the website of the Nobel Prize said.

According to the BBC, the pair developed solutions to pick, manipulate and measure photons and ions individually, allowing an insight into a microscopic world that was once just the province of scientific theory. Continue Reading »

Chavez victory in Venezuela brings praise from Ahmadinejad

Iranian president congratulates 3rd time elected Venezuelan Hugo Chavez and expresses hope for increased cooperation between the 2 allies.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday extended congratulations to his “dear brother” Hugo Chavezon his being reelected as Venezuela’s president, the ISNA news agency reported.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate you and the great nation of Venezuela on holding a passionate election and your renewed election as president,” Ahmadinejad told Chavez in a message published by the news agency.

The United States and Israel are considering the possibility of a joint “surgical strike” against Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to a Foreign Policy report by David Rothkopf published Monday.

Syrian Rebels Take More Hizbullah Hostages

Once again, Hizbullah terrorists taken hostage in Syria, by Free Syrian Army fighters.

Syrian rebels say they have detained 13 Hizbullah members and are holding them in a village outside of Homs. Free Syrian Army fighters are also threatening to invade Homs, according to a source. The FSA is protesting Hizbullah’s support for the regime of Bashar Assad.

One source quoted in the foreign press said “They [Hizbullah detainees] have confessed to killing and slaughtering [people] in Syria…”

The source insists that Hizbullah is “deeply involved” in the Syria fighting, and the fate of the 13 hostages was “in the hands of [FSA] field commanders.” Continue Reading »

Mahmoud Aloul, a member of the Fatah central committee and former Palestinian Authority governor of Nablus, said that although the Palestinians have agreed to launch a “popular resistance against occupation, no one has dropped the armed resistance from his dictionary.”

Patriot Anti-Missile Battery Deployed in Northern Israel

A Patriot anti-missile battery has been installed in the north, atop Mt. Carmel near Haifa. However, according to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, deployment of a Patriot battery “is not an unusual thing.”

The system, operated by the IDF Air Defense Command, is capable of intercepting flying objects (balllistic missiles, aircraft and other threats) at ranges between 60 to 160 kilometers ( 37 to 99 miles). The Patriot system was used during the Gulf War to intercept missiles fired at Israel from Iraq. Hydraulic fracturing – fracking — is one way to extract valuable shale oil and gases from deep underground by injecting a highly pressurized fluid into rock to pull out the fossil fuel. Those in favor of fracking say that it will help America become energy independent, while growing numbers against it are highly critical of the risks such as groundwater contamination, surface spills and even mini-earthquakes.
