Having seen little persecution, the Jewish community on the Tunisian island of Djerba traces its roots back to the Babylonian exile of 586 B.C.E., and is one of the few communities not exiled due to the creation of Israel.

When school lets out, the streets around the ancient synagogue on the Tunisian island of Djerba fill with rambunctious boys wearing kippot and girls in long skirts, shouting to each other in Hebrew, Arabic and French.

Israel Police arrest 2 Palestinians from Jerusalem for inciting to have Jews killed via Facebook

 

According to the police, the 2 Palestinians regularly sought attackers in the capital’s Arab neighborhoods by posting images of knives, and encouraging them to stab Jewish residents.

 

Two Palestinian men in their 20s were arrested by police on Wednesday morning in the flashpoint east Jerusalem Arab neighborhood of Silwan for using Facebook to incite violence against Jews in the capital.

The unidentified suspects were arrested in their homes following a two-week undercover investigation carried out by detectives, police said.

“They were using Facebook to call on people to carry out attacks, and arrested as part of the ongoing operation to find suspects involved in using the Internet to incite violence,” Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld. Continue Reading »

Israel’s Defense Minister announces planned security fence between Lachish district & Hevron

 

After the Kiryat Gat stabbing, Moshe Ya’alon announced plans to erect an electronic border fence between Judea and Lachish district to prevent Palestinians from bypassing security checks.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon (Likud) announced in the Knesset on Wednesday night that the defense establishment intends to a build an updated security fence between Hevron and Kiryat Gat.

For turning archaeological find over to Antiquities Authorities’ officials, Itai Halpern of Pardesiya was granted a certificate of honor after discovering the head of a statue from the First Temple period.

An Israeli system that protects planes from surface-to-air missiles has passed a test conducted by NATO, which could open up new markets for the technology in the alliance’s 28 member states, defense electronics manufacturer Elbit Systems said Monday.

The system, which can jam incoming heat-seeking missiles with a laser, is already in use by civilian Israeli carriers.

MUSIC, or Multi Spectral Infrared Countermeasures, is a family of high-performance, directed infrared countermeasure systems, which are integrated with other advanced, passive airborne warning systems to protect aircraft against heat seeking surface-to-air missiles and shoulder-launched rockets. A Jewish student at a Dutch university was shocked to discover recently that his fellow students had spray-painted swastikas and Nazi symbols on the walls of his room as part of an initiation rite.

The management at the Netherlands’ prestigious Leiden University said it would take harsh measures against the students responsible for the incident, which took place several days ago.

Robert Kraft, the Jewish businessman, New England Patriots owner, and long-time supporter of American football in Israel, agreed Monday to honor Ezra Schwartz, an American who was killed in a terror attack at the Gush Eztion junction in the West Bank on November 19, with a moment of silence during the Patriot’s upcoming match against the Buffalo Bills Monday night.

Ezra Schwartz, 18, of Massachusetts was delivering food to Israeli soldiers when he became one of three people killed by a man who fired shots from his vehicle and rammed pedestrians in the West Bank.
