ADL: ‘Offensive & Not Remotely Funny’, Oscars Sketch on Jews

From the Anti-Defamation League: “While we have come to expect inappropriate ‘Jews control Hollywood’ jokes…the Oscars was offensive and not remotely funny,”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) released a statement Monday criticizing the “offensive and not remotely funny” sketch at the Academy Awards featuring Seth MacFarlane’s character “Ted.”

In the sketch, the animated bear tells actor Mark Wahlberg that if “you want to work in this town” you have to be Jewish.

It was “sad and disheartening” that the awards show sought to use age-old, anti-Jewish stereotypes for laughs, the ADL said in a statement.

A French organization that saved Jews during the Holocaust has declined to attend a commemoration because it was organized by pro-Israel Jews.

The Marseille branch of CIMADE, a French Protestant group established in 1939, declined to attend the region’s main memorial ceremony for Jewish Holocaust victims because of the pro-Israel attitude of CRIF, the umbrella group representing French Jewish communities, which organized the event together with the municipality.

A brochure published by Bar Ilan University, Israel’s only religious university, contains the outrageous claim that Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria and IDF soldiers sexually harass Arab women. The claim is not contested in the brochure.

Italy Sets Guidelines to Prohibit anti-Semitic Chants at Football Matches

The guidelines were issued in the wake of two cases of anti-Semitic & racist behavior of fans in Hungary & Bulgaria that resulted in fines & sanctions by FIFA.

New guidelines issued by the Italian Interior Ministry govern how police may halt or interrupt a soccer match because of racist or anti-Semitic behavior by fans or on the pitch.

The guidelines were issued following a meeting this week of the Ministry’s watchdog commission on sporting events that dealt with the “despicable phenomenon of racism” noted recently at some matches.

France’s main Jewish student union asked a Paris court to order Twitter to divulge details about users who post anti-Semitic comments.

Tuesday’s hearing came on the heels of a weekend of Twitter posts using the hashtag #SiJetaisNazi, or #IfIWereANazi, which was one of the country’s top five trending topics on January 5.

Hungary & Bulgaria’s soccer teams fined for fans’ anti-Semitism

FIFA strongly condemns all forms of racism in football, and any form of discrimination will not be tolerated and will receive a strong response by the relevant FIFA authorities.

According to Article 67 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the home association is liable for the improper conduct among spectators, regardless of the question of culpable conduct.
