The IDF has released a summary of the last eight hours of Operation Protective Edge’s ground offensive in Gaza on Friday morning, after tens of thousands of soldiers were called up to enter Gaza and destroy Hamas’s arsenals and terror tunnels.

IDF Soldier shoots dead a Palestinian targeting Israeli vehicles near Hebron

Israel’s army says the dead roadside-terrorist was among a group of 3 throwing stones & firebombs at Israeli cars near Hebron, and has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Early on Monday morning IDF forces shot and killed a Palestinian near Hebron who was part of a group throwing firebombs and stones at passing Israeli drivers.

The incident occurred west of the village of Samu near Hebron.

A senior military source said that the Palestinians killed overnight Sunday in the Gaza Strip were Hamas members “who were in the tunnel with explosives” and that “the tunnel was intended for a significant terror attack with special infrastructure and an anti-soldier force.”

IDF jails soldiers after public call for revenge in Jewish teens’ murder

“Vigilantes have no place in our democracy,” said the Israeli PM  Thursday evening at an Independence Day celebration at the home of the U.S. ambassador to Israel.

 

JERUSALEM  — Seven Israeli soldiers were sentenced to prison for posting photos calling for retaliation for the murder of three Israeli teenagers.

The military handed down a 10-day term for the soldiers on Thursday after they posted the photos on Facebook calling for revenge for the killing of Gilad Shaar, Naftali Fraenkel and Eyal Yifrach.

Thousands of Israelis, including active soldiers, have posted calls on social media calling for revenge, including a Facebook page with over 32,000 likes called “The People of Israel Demand Vengeance!”

“We are prepared to widen our operation in Gaza, should the need arise,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday following multiple rocket salvos from Gaza into Israel over the weekend.

Sirens blared across southern Israel in Netivot, Ashkelon, Sderot, and several towns in the area of Sha’ar HaNegev. An explosion was also heard in the area.

Israel responds with IAF airstrikes after Gaza’s five rockets hit southern Israel

One of the rockets shot from Gaza caused a fire destroying a paint factory in Israel’s southern city of Sderot.

 

For the second time in 24 hours, the Israel Air Force struck targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night after several rockets hit southern Israel.

An Israeli aircraft targeted three underground rocket launchers in the Strip’s center. The strike came in retaliation for rockets fired from Gaza earlier in the evening, the IDF said, adding that it holds Hamas responsible .

One rocket caused a fire in a paint factory in the city of Sderot.

10 Syrian Soldiers Killed in Israel’s Retaliatory Airstrikes

At least 10 Syrian soldiers were killed in Israeli overnight air raids on positions near the Golan Heights, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) monitoring group said on Monday.

“At least 10 Syrian soldiers were killed in Israeli raids against military positions [near the Golan – ed.],” SOHR said Monday. “Nine missiles were fired by aircraft and at least two tanks and two artillery batteries were destroyed.”

Fighters of the Sky Rider unit who make use of the smallest drones in the IDF’s arsenal have been playing a significant role in the military’s ongoing operation to retrieve the three kidnapped teens that have been missing since Thursday night– overnight Tuesday, the unit took part in successful efforts to arrest 64 Palestinians, including 51 Hamas members who were released in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal.
