Jerusalem to snub UNESCO prize honoring Israel’s innovative Volcani Institute

In light of UNESCO’s overtly anti-Israel character, Jerusalem has decided not to attend the 2017 Life Sciences ceremony, awarding this year’s prize to the Israeli research center, which is part of the Agriculture Ministry.
• “The prize awarded to the Volcani Institute will not serve as a fig leaf to legitimize the political resolutions of this organization, which harm the State of Israel,” commented an Israeli gov’t official.

The United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) has chosen to honor the Israeli Volcani Institute, but the Israeli government has decided to snub the event.

Minister of Education Naftali Bennett and Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel have decided, in conjunction with the Prime Minister’s Office, that the institute would not accept the prize as part of steps Israel is taking against UNESCO for its anti-Israel resolutions. Continue Reading »

Israeli agriculture center wins UNESCO global prize for innovation

 

A first for the UN body to award Israel’s Agricultural Research Organization Volcani Center the life sciences award.
• Volcani Center director said, This is a ‘great achievement for the state and underscores our contribution not just to science but to international cooperation for ensuring food security for future generations.’

The Agricultural Research Organization Volcani Center, a government-run institute in central Israel known for its groundbreaking discoveries, is among the three winners of the UNESCO Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences for 2017.

Israel’s Mossad invests $3m to fund R&D in new intel technology start-ups

 

The Mossad has called on entrepreneurs and innovators to develop new technologies for Israel’s intelligence agency in cutting edge fields such as energy harvesting, data encryption, and automated identification technologies.

Israel’s Security and Intelligence agency, Mossad, has announced that it will set up a fund to invest in technological innovation, the agency said in a press released on Tuesday.

An initial investment of 10,000,000 shekels (nearly three million dollars) will fund research and development programs of Israeli start-ups to develop new technologies for the intelligence agency.

According to the press release, the fund known as Libertad, is intended to “provide innovative capability for maintaining and developing the Mossad’s technological superiority by connecting to civilian cutting-edge technological startup companies.” Continue Reading »

Israel tech company displays its drone/UAV interception technology

With weaponized drones bringing a whole new assortment of security threats, several companies at the Israel Defense Exhibition in Tel Aviv this week, showcased the latest technology in neutralization and interception of the devices.

ORAD, an Israeli company based in Holon, presented the latest version of its DROM Drone Defense System, which it says can detect approaching drones at more than 3.5 kilometers away and take over the unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV’s, piloting abilities, neutralize them and land them far from the operator. Chinese invest $20 million in Israeli ‘smart clothing’ startup

Israeli startup HealthWatch Technologies, which develops cardiac monitoring garments, announced Monday a $20 million investment by Chinese company Yiling, which specializes in Chinese medicine and is now in the process of branching out into conventional medicine.

According to the financial daily Globes, the investment puts HealthWatch’s value at $65 million.

Intel launches 7th generation processors designed & developed in Israel

 

As well as being energy-saving, Intel’s latest Israel developed processor provides record-breaking performance rates and are the strongest, fastest processors available to the public.

Intel announced on Tuesday the official launch of its full line of advanced seventh generation computer processors. According to Intel’s Israel division, the majority of development and design for the new high-performance processors came from the company’s Haifa development center.

The Tel Aviv University researchers’ study, published in the journal Translational Psychiatry, describe a gene that codes for a particular protein, leading to neurotransmission. As a result, future therapies should be able to halt its progression.

A recent discovery by researchers at Tel Aviv University may soon change the way Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed and treated.

The study, published in the journal Translational Psychiatry, describe a gene that codes for a particular protein that researchers discovered.

The protein then turns off signals that it normally produces.
