Israel’s PM to offer African leaders new technology at September UN meeting

 

Exhibition featuring Israel’s cutting-edge technology in the fields of science, agriculture, and medicine is organized by Israeli envoy to the U.N. Danny Danon, with the purpose of assisting rural African villages and further strengthen Israel-Africa ties.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with African leaders in New York in September, as part of the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Netanyahu visited Africa in July for a four-day trip that included meeting with the leaders of Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

FDA approves Israeli-made theraputic contact lense

Patients on a waiting list for a corneal transplant or who’s suffering from chronic pain will benefit from the Israeli developed contact lens that are now entering the market.

The FDA has approved a new therapeutic contact lens that will help treat corneal edema, a common eye condition in adults that causes swelling, a build-up of fluid, blurred vision, haziness and scarring. EyeYon, the Israeli company responsible for this development, created these special lenses in an effort to increase the amount of time eye drops can remain in the eye in order to help alleviate symptoms of the condition which is common after cataract and corneal transplant surgeries. Elbit Systems unveiled a helmet-mounted system on Wednesday designed to allow armored personnel carrier and tank crews to see straight through their armor.

The helmets give soldiers a 360-degree, real-time view of their surroundings while in the vehicle.

Called IronVision, the system has attracted the interest of the IDF, which may choose to acquire it. If it does, the product would represent a significant leap in the capability of personnel in closedhatched armored fighting vehicles to identify threats, as well as friendly forces. 13 Yr-Old Israeli Girl Invents Satellite System That Produces Oxygen

 

Roni Oron, from Ramat Hasharon, Israel, won the “Satellite is Born” competition hosted by the Israel Space Agency, with a satellite that has the potential to create oxygen in space.

 

A 13-year-old Israeli girl has invented a system for the production of oxygen in space, the Hebrew youth paper Ma’ariv L’Noar reported on Thursday, along with an interview with the budding teen scientist from Ramat Hasharon.

Israeli earns int’l honors for discovery that diagnoses cancer by sensing breath

 

Israeli professor from the Technion  said, “Precisely because I am not a doctor, I was able to conceive such a unique development – an inexpensive & noninvasive system for diagnosing diseases based on breath.”

 

Prof. Hossam Haick of Haifa’s Technion-Israel Institute of Technology received the Humboldt Research Award in Germany and was also chosen as one of the 100 influential figures published by California’s Good Magazine over the weekend. He has been prominent, among other things in his development of devices to diagnose and monitor various types of cancers (lung, breast, colon, gastric, head and neck, ovarian, kidney and bladder malignancies) via breath samples. Israel’s groundbreaking new blood test, still in early stages, could save countless lives by detecting diseases such as pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis, diabetes, traumatic brain injury & multiple sclerosis early on.

An experimental blood test may one day be able to detect a range of diseases including cancer and multiple sclerosis, based on signatures of DNA from dying cells, researchers said Monday.

Israel opens yearlong exhibition celebrating its ingenuity & innovation at Ben-Gurion Int’l Airport

 

Ben-Gurion Int’l Airport begins to showcase 60 Israeli achievements in medicine, agriculture, science & technology to millions of travelers visiting the Jewish State.

A year-long wall exhibition featuring 60 celebrated Israeli innovations was to be launched on Monday at Ben-Gurion International Airport. Science, Technology and Space Minister Ofir Akunis and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz were expected to attend the opening ceremony.

United Nations approves Israel’s agriculture resolution despite Arab obstructions

The UN on Friday adopted an Israeli resolution on utilizing agricultural technology for sustainable development, with 124 votes in favor and 37 abstentions.
