India prefers Israel’s anti-tank missile over the U.S. made Javelin

New Delhi has committed to purchase at least 8,000 of Israel’s Spike missiles along with more than 300 launchers in a deal with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems worth $525 million.

NEW DELHI – India has opted to buy Israel’s Spike anti-tank guided missile, a defense ministry source said on Saturday, rejecting a rival US offer of Javelin missiles that Washington had lobbied hard to win.

India’s Ministry of Defense to acquire Israel produced anti-missile defense system

The Indian Navy is replenishing its inventory by purchasing an additional 260 Barak-1 missiles for from the Israeli firm, Rafael, for  $143 million.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. will provide the Indian Navy with hundreds of Barak-1 missiles over the next 18 months in a deal worth $143 million. India’s Ministry of Defense approved the procurement in recent days in part because naval commanders have warned of a grave shortage of such missiles in the Indian Navy’s inventory. New Delhi police detain suspicious man eying Israeli embassy

 

According to Indian news service, the suspicious man tried running away when  approached by Israel’s embassy security personnel.

 

New Delhi police detained a 45-year-old man after “he failed to give a proper reason for loitering around the Israel embassy in the national capital’s high security area” on Wednesday, the Indo Asian News Service reported.

India to Buy 15 Israeli Drones

The Indian gov’t approved a purchase Monday to acquire Israeli manufactured UAVs with the goal of boosting India’s surveillance capabilities.

India will purchase 15 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Israel, news outlets reported Monday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved the purchase at a Cabinet meeting, according to Defense Update. The goal: to boost India’s line of surveillance against northern border countries and regional rivals Pakistan and China.

The purchase will cost about 1,200 crores / 120 million rupees, or just under 2 million dollars.

For 33-year-old Joshua Godfrey, studying the farming models of Israel’s kibbutzim firsthand has provided the framework he needs to open a permaculture orphanage back home – on the outskirts of Chennai, southeastern India.

Israel looking to open flights to Goa

India’s Tourism Minister will visit Jerusalem next month to discuss Israel’s interest in opening new tourist routes.


PANAJI: Tourism department is upbeat about the interest shown by the Israeli government to start scheduled and charter flights to Goa.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar along with deputy chief minister Francis D’Souza is scheduled to visit Israel in June.

Parulekar told TOI that the government has received an invitation from the Israeli government for the visit. “Israeli government is keen to start scheduled as well as charter flights to Goa,” said Parulekar.

He added that his department is also keen to start Australia-Singapore-Goa flights to tap tourist potential of Southeast Asia.

A Jew’s Trek from India to the Golani Brigade

At 24 yrs-old, Ronen Birvdaker decided to immigrate to Israel from India, recently completed his training to became a Golani Brigade infantry soldier.

Ronen Birvdaker, a Jewish Indian from Mumbai, was so moved by the 2008 terrorist attack in his home city that he decided to immigrate to Israel last year. On Wednesday, he completed his training to become a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces’ Golani Brigade.

Birvdaker, 25, said that after the November 2008 attack — which killed 166 people, including a Chabad emissary and his wife — he felt that as a Jew there was no place for him to live other than in Israel.
