Israel’s construction & engineering delegation continues search effort in Mexico

Israeli engineers are surveying buildings in the Mexican capital to determine whether they are safe, while others in the delegation continue searching through the rubble, still hoping to find survivors.

The IDF delegation to Mexico City on Saturday continued searching through the wreckage caused by the deadly 7.1 magnitude earthquake that devastated the country earlier this week, though at this point the chances of finding survivors are said to be very small.Because of the bleak assessments, the Israeli delegation—after consultations with the Mexican, American and Japanese rescue teams also operating in the city—gave up its surgical search methods over the last two days in favor of more massive, large-scale efforts. IDF construction & engineering unit arrives in Mexico for search & rescue

Israel’s Home Front Command delegation from the IDF that arrived in Mexico specializes in construction & engineering, that includes 71 professionally equipped soldiers & officers to assist in the logistical efforts of the locals, from their coordinated search teams, to successful rescues.
– ‘We’ll stay as long as it takes,’ said the IDF delegation’s commander.

The IDF has dispatched a rescue unit to Mexico City Thursday to assist in logistical efforts in some of the 38 buildings to completely buckle in the Mexican capital after the earthquake that hit it Tuesday.

The earthquake—registering 7.1 on the Richter scale—caused 250 fatalities and injuries to more than 2,000 people. Continue Reading »

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met on Thursday in Mexico City with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

The two discussed upgrading the bilateral free trade agreement and expanding trade. Agreements were signed regarding aviation, an MOU on MASHAV and a space agreement.

Netanyahu said during the meeting, “Thank you, my friend, President Pena Nieto for your personal friendship, for the friendship of Mexico. This is a milestone. As incredible as it sounds, what you just said always astounds me: that this is the first visit since the founding of the State of Israel of an Israeli prime minister in Latin America. Israel’s Micro-irrigation pioneer Netafim sold to Mexichem for $1.5 Billion

 

Mexican group purchased 80% of Israel’s world-leading micro-irrigation firm, active in 30 countries, with a $855 million turnover in 2016
• Following PM Netanyahu’s recent visit to Africa, Netafim expected to expand into a dozen African markets.

Mexican group Mexichem is to buy 80% of Israel’s world-leading micro-irrigation firm Netafim for $1.5 billion, the Israeli company announced on Monday.

Founded in 1965, Netafim specializes in water-saving “smart drip” and micro-irrigation systems for agriculture. Netafim is active in 30 countries, owns 17 production plants, employs 4,300 people, and sells its products in more than 100 countries. Continue Reading »
