U.S. President Barack Obama said on Saturday that a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is possible, and would have to be implemented in stages.

French experts: Arafat did NOT die of poisoning

Swiss forensic experts said last month that Arafat body samples consistent with polonium poisoning.

French forensic tests have concluded that former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat did not die of poisoning, as had been suggested by an earlier report, a source who saw the conclusions of the report said on Tuesday.

“The results of the analyses allow us to conclude that the death was not the result of poisoning,” the source told Reuters, quoting from conclusions of a report by French forensic experts handed over to Arafat’s widow Suha. Continue Reading »

Half the Palestinians think peace process with Israel a mistake

In a poll taken, 66% of Palestinians believe US-brokered negotiations will fail to result in any settlement.

 

 

Roughly half of Palestinians living in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip believe the Palestinian Authority erred in resuming peace negotiations with Israel, a public opinion poll revealed.

According to the poll, which was conducted by the East Jerusalem-based Jerusalem Media and Communication Center this month and published on Wednesday, 50.5 percent of respondents think the PA should not have agreed to the renewal of talks. Continue Reading »

Haifa University bans students from waving Palestinian flag on campus

Arab group’s legal council says Haifa University is denying its students freedom of expression & that in the past, flag didn’t lead to violence.

 

 

 

The University of Haifa banned Arab students from waving Palestinian flags during protests that took place earlier this week against the Begin-Prawer plan, causing reactions from NGOs for and against the decision.

Israel’s Defense Minister: Gov’t to Begin Dealing With Illegal Arab Construction

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon reported Monday evening that his ministry would develop methods to deal with illegal Arab construction in Judea & Samaria.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Monday night that he would set up a committee to develop a legal framework to prevnet illegal building in Judea and Samaria that would apply to all residents. The announcement by Ya’alon came in response to a lawsuit by the Regavim group that demanded the state intervene to prevent illegal Arab building, just as it acts to prevent illegal construction in Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria.

The lawsuit by Regavim demands that the state order the demolition of illegal building by Palestinian Authority Arabs between the Binyamin region community of Neve Tzuf and the Arab village of Deir Nazim. Continue Reading »

Hamas is dictating ever harsher Sharia restrictions on the Palestinians of Gaza as it loses backing throughout the region.

Hamas finds itself increasingly isolated and under pressure after the fall of its Muslim Brotherhood patrons in Egypt, the combined Israeli-Egyptian effort to shut down Gaza’s smuggling and terror tunnels, and Iran’s newfound reluctance to fund the group.

Palestinian investigation concludes: Israel assassinated Arafat

Acknowledging insufficient evidence to support theory that PA president died of polonium poisoning, the Palestinian investigators say Israel is only suspect in Arafat’s murder.

 

 

The commission set up to investigate the circumstances of former Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat’s death presented their findings in a press conference in Ramallah on Friday.

The two teams of investigators, Swiss and Russian, did not find any conclusive evidence, Dr. Abdullah Bashir, the chairman of the medical committee, said.

“The outcome of the comprehensive report on the levels of Polonium-210 and the development of his illness does not give sufficient evidence to support the decision that Polonium-210 caused acute radiation syndrome leading to death,” he said, quoting conclusions of the Russian report. Israeli security forces on Thursday closed two offices in East Jerusalem they say served as a base for Hamas operations in the city.

The Shin Bet security service said the offices belonged to Al-Quds Development and Amara al-Aqsa (Al-Aqsa Properties), charities based in the northern Israeli cities of Umm al-Fahm and Nazareth.

The Shin Bet said in a statement that agents and the Israel Police had closed “two Jerusalem offices, from which the Hamas terror organization had been conducting actions.” Continue Reading »

Colonel (Res.) Seraiah Ofer was killed in an attack outside his home in the Jordan Valley settlement of Brosh Habika at 10 P.M. Thursday night. His wife Monique was moderately wounded, but managed to escape and contact police.
