IDF Soldiers at the Mercy of Rock Throwers

The number of IDF soldiers injured by rocks throwers soar, as they are not allowed to open fire.

A report by a political activist and reservist combat soldier claims the IDF has effectively capitulated in the face of Arab rock and firebomb attacks.

Writing in the web magazine Mida, Erez Tadmor says that in the past week, since the grave injury of Yaakov Zlatkin at the hands of an Arab mob, he has spoken with dozens of officers and soldiers who all said the same thing: The health and security of Jews who live in Judea and Samaria, as well as those of the soldiers who are supposed to guard them, have been left to the mercy of the enemy. West Bank: Palestinians & Settlers clash = 10 injured

Security forces called in to disperse some 30 settlers & 100 Palestinians who clashed near Binyamin settlement

Violent riots broke out Saturday as dozens of settlers and Palestinians clashed in the West Bank settlement of Binyamin. Ten people sustained injuries as a result of stone hurling.

The clashes started when settlers arrived at a central junction in the settlement in order to protest the recent incidents stone throwing at Israeli cars in the region. Palestinian-American teen sentenced for stone throwing

American-born Mohammad Khalek was sentenced to 2 weeks in prison & fined $850 by an Israeli military court, reported the Palestinian prisoner rights group Addameer.

A lawyer for Palestinian-American teenager Mohammad Khalek says an Israeli military court has sentenced the boy to two weeks in prison for throwing rocks at Israeli vehicles.

Palestinian who killed by throwing stones convicted of murder

The conviction of the Palestinian attacker who killed a Jewish father & infant son in 2011 has sparked calls for all who attack by throwing stones to be charged with attempted murder.

Former FM: IDF should open fire on rock-throwers

Former FM Liberman urges IDF to make appropriate changes to military rules of engagement, claiming “only this kind of change will stop targeting of citizens.” Too many civilians seriously hospitalized or killed by stone throwers.

Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman urged incoming Defense Minister, Moshe Ya’alon, on Sunday to change the IDF’s rules of engagement to instruct soldiers to open fire at “rock-throwing terrorists.”

Liberman asserted that “rock-throwing [should] be treated like shooting using firearms,” adding that “only this kind of change will stop civilians and soldiers from being targeted by Arab rioters and prevent disasters.”

The unrest that plagued the West Bank over the past several days went largely uncovered by the media due to the hostilities between Israeland Gaza, but Jewish residents say the disturbances were so widespread the security forces in the region had trouble handling them.

In an attempt to document the violence a settler recorded video footage of Palestinians throwing rocks towards Israeli cars stuck in traffic.
