Israeli cabinet secretary: Israel to renovate 9 West Bank ‘National Heritage Sites’

Israeli Cabinet Secretary Tzvi Hauser says Israel is adding handicapped access to the Tomb of the Patriarchs, and the obligation to renovate is unrelated to politics.

 

The Israeli government says it is moving forward on a plan to invest in places it considers part of Israel’s national heritage, including nine West Bank sites.

Arabs Injure 11 Jews, Damaging Vineyards at Esh Kodesh

About 250 Arabs rioted Saturday afternoon near Esh Kodesh, close to Shilo in the Binyamin region, injuring 11 Jews.

According to the Tatzpit news agency, the rioters tore down the fences surrounding the Jewish residents’ vineyards, causing them serious damage.

An Israel Defense forces arrest raid in the West Bank early Thursday turned into a violent confrontation with local Palestinians, for the second time this week.

Border Police officers entered the Jenin refugee camp before dawn to arrest a wanted Palestinian militant suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.

MK Edelstein & MK Elkin call on Israel’s annexation of ‘Area C’

High-ranking Likud politicians suggest that the lack of Israel’s annexation where all the Jewish settlements are located strengthens the int’l community’s demand for withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines.

 

Israeli annexation of the West Bank’s Area C – where all settlements are located – received public support from two high-ranking Likud politicians on Tuesday evening, Public Diplomacy Minister Yuli Edelstein and MK Ze’ev Elkin.

“Lack of Israeli sovereignty over Area C means the continuation of the status quo,” said Edelstein, as he spoke about an area of the country that is now under Israeli military control. “It strengthens the international community’s demand for a withdrawal to the pre-1967 lines.”

Elite IDF counter-terrorism force ‘busted’ in undercover operation

Raid gone wrong: Palestinian sources in the West Bank reported Tuesday that riots broke out in the West Bank village of Tamoun, near Jenin, after an undercover IDF unit operating in the area was exposed.

Three soldiers sustained mild injuries and were evacuated to a nearby hospital.

The Palestinians said that the troops were disguised as vegetable vendors and and sought to seize members of a militant group.

PA report: Palestinian population to outnumber the Jews by 2020

At the end of 2012 the estimated number of Palestinians in the world is 11.6 million, of whom 4.4 million are living in the Gaza Strip, West Bank & East Jerusalem & another 1.4 million living inside Israel.

The number of Arabs and Jews in Israel and the occupied areas will be equal by 2016, but the number of Arabs will exceed that of Jews by 2020, a report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics said Monday.

Settlers leave illegal outpost peacefully

Day after fighting with Border Police & soldiers, dozens of rightist activists depart quietly from illegal outpost of Oz-Zion

Dozens of rightist activists who camped out at the illegal West Bank outpost of Oz Zion overnight left the area of their own accord on Saturday evening.

The activists grabbed their belongings minutes after the sun had set and continued on to the nearby outpost of Givat Asaf. IDF troops watched over their departure.

5 policemen wounded when Magav & IDF try to evacuate illegal West Bank ‘outpost’

IDF forces likely to return with reinforcements on Saturday evening after unsuccessful attempt to evacuate the Oz Tzion outpost situated between Jerusalem & Ramallah.

 

Five Border Patrol policemen were lightly wounded on Friday at the outpost of Oz Tzion in the West Bank, as dozens of policemen and soldiers tried to evacuate it before the Sabbath.

Britain ‘very disappointed’ with Ariel University’s upgrade

UK Minister Alistair Burt says it’s ‘disappointing’ that Israel decided to recognize West Bank institution as full-fledged university. He asserts it creates ‘another obstacle to peace’ & lauds PA’s ‘measured response’ to Israeli settlement plans.

Alistair Burt, Britain’s minister for the Middle East, has condemned Israel‘s decision to officially recognize the Ariel University Center of Samaria as a full-fledged university, saying “We are deeply disappointed by the decision to upgrade Ariel’s university center. Ariel is beyond the Green Line in a settlement that is illegal according to international law.”

National Poll: 45% of Israelis support unilateral withdrawal from most of the West Bank

Rafi Smith poll: 80% of Israelis support IDF presence in West Bank in the case of unilateral (civilian) withdrawal until ‘peace agreement’ is signed.

 

Almost half of the Israeli population supports a unilateral withdrawal from large sections of the Palestinian territories based on the pre-1967 lines, according to a poll conducted by Rafi Smith for the Blue White Future movement.

The poll was released ahead of an election debate between the “Zionist parties” hosted by the movement at Tel Aviv University on Sunday.

Forty-five percent of respondents answered they would back a unilateral withdrawal while maintaining the large settlement blocs including western Samaria, Kedumim, Jerusalem, Ma’aleh Adumim and Gush Etzion.

New poll reveals: Majority of WB Palestinians support Hamas

Palestinians are “frustrated” with Israel, “They may turn to Hamas not because it’s Hamas, but because it’s the movement that opposes negotiations with Israel.”

 

The majority of Palestinians have said that they support Hamas’s response to the latest Israel-Gaza conflict, according to a new poll by a research center in Ramallah.

According to the 1200-person survey by the Arab World Research and Development Center, nearly 90 per cent of Palestinians living in the West Bank supported the terrorist organization’s bold response in comparison to that of Fatah. Continue Reading »

Hamas holds 1st rally in West Bank after a 5 year ban

Following agreement between Hamas & Fatah, thousands of Hamas supporters rally in Nablus

Fatah rally will be held in Gaza in January.

Hamas held its first rally in the West Bank Thursday, after a five-year ban, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Islamist movement.

The movement’s green flags were prominent in the northern city of Nablus as thousands of people participated in the rally.

The rally was made possible after the Palestinian Authority lifted the ban enforced since June 2007 when Hamas fighters took over the Gaza Strip after a short battle with Fatah-backed security forces. Continue Reading »

An IDF officer, responding to 2 videos last week,  says the decision not to shoot, despite orders that they can fire if their lives are in danger, was partly out of concern over escalation.

Israel Defense Force soldiers involved in recent incidents in the West Bank chose not to open fire, according to an officer in the IDF’s Judea and Samaria Division. The officer made the remarks in response to two videos showing recent confrontations between IDF soldiers with local demonstrators in the West Bank, in which the soldiers appeared to be at a disadvantage compared to the Palestinian crowds.
