Jihad terrorists are threatening to take over the Sinai, says U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who added it will be a problem for Egypt and the United States as well as for Israel.

In an interview with CNN before she left Jerusalem Tuesday, Clinton pointed out that the she is concerned for the safety of Americans serving in the multinational force as observers for the continuation of the Camp David Accords. Continue Reading »

Weizmann Institute scientists have develop a unique imaging technique that “turn walls into mirrors” using only natural light instead of lasers.

Scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science have developed a unique imaging technique to “turn walls into mirrors” using natural light instead of lasers and to “see around corners.”

The work, performed by Prof. Yaron Silberberg and colleagues at the Rehovot institute, was published on Monday night in the prestigious journal Nature Photonics.

Report: Iraq rejects a US offer to restore half of its seized Jewish Archive

Iraq has rejected an American offer  to return half of the Iraqi Jewish Archive previously transferred from Baghdad to the US

Iraq rejected an offer made by the United States to bring back half of the Iraqi Jewish Archive previously transferred from Baghdad to the US after 2003, insisting that Iraq should restore the whole Archive, an Iraqi official newspaper reported on Sunday.

“The (Tourism and Antiquities) minister Lewa’ Smeisim refused an American offer to give back half of the Jewish Archive to Iraq, on condition that Iraq will concede its right of possessing the remaining half,” the state-run al-Sabah newspaper quoted Smeisim’s chief media office Hakim al-Shammari as saying. Shekel-dollar rate passes the 4 NIS = 1 US$ threshold

Exchange rate reaches the threshold for the first time since early 2009; Shekel-euro exchange rate reaches 1 NIS = 4.911 €.

In inter-bank foreign currency trading Wednesday the shekel continued to weaken against the dollar as the US currency gained ground against the world’s major currencies. For the first time since June 2009, the shekel-dollar exchange rate pushed through the NIS 4/$ threshold.

In morning trading the shekel was up 0.37 percent compared with Tuesday’s representative rate, to NIS 3.997/$, having briefly gone over NIS 4/$ at the opening, and the shekel-euro exchange rate was up 0.38% to NIS 4.911/€. Continue Reading »

A UN report leaked to British newspaper The Guardian claims that the Eritrean regime has been the biggest beneficiary of the country’s arms and human trafficking industry.

According to the newspaper, “An investigation by the Somalia and Eritrea monitoring group has uncovered a trafficking highway running from the Eritrean highlands through Sudan’s refugee camps into the Sinai desert, delivering arms to militant groups, and Eritrean asylum-seekers to Bedouingangs, who use starvation, electrocution, rape and murder to extort up to $40,000 from relatives in the Eritrean diaspora for their release.” Continue Reading »

Synel, an Israeli subsidiary company in France, will provide time and attendance management hardware, as well as fingerprint verification, keypad entry, magnetic card, barcode card, proximity card, contactless smart card and facial recognition technology to help prevent burglary and unauthorized entry throughout the museum.

It’s not easy being a Jew near Arab areas. Stone throwing & firebomb attacks appear almost daily, but the police don’t.

Jews in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of Jerusalem, a hotbed of angry Arabs in one of the areas claimed by the Palestinian Authority, are attacked almost daily by stones and firebombs. Police are passive, according to Jewish residents.

Hezi Hovav told Arutz Sheva there have been dozens of Arab attacks, and he has filed complaints without any results.

In one recent attack, a firebomb (Molotov cocktail) burned one room of a house. Another firebomb was hurled last Thursday at a car. Continue Reading »

The Chief Judge of the Jerusalem Rabbinical Court, Rabbi Eliyahu Abergel, has ruled that in cases where a man has not fathered any children, and his wife cannot or does not want to bear children, the man may take a concubine.

Sheldon and Miriam Adelson give $13m. to Birthright-Taglit

American Billionaire couple says the donation will bring another 5,000 young adults on free trips to Israel in 2012.

Jewish-American billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam donated 13 million dollars to Birthright-Taglit, it was announced on Tuesday.

The couple’s gift to the organization, which brings young Jewish adults on free trips to Israel, came in addition to the 20 million dollars they already gave it earlier this year.

The mass-circulation daily Bild said in an article to be published Tuesday that Merkel warned the board of her conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) that Germany must restore legal protection for circumcision.

Spain is to Withdraw Half of its UNIFIL Troops from Lebanon

Spain is to reduce from its 1,100 troops in Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Spain will withdraw up to half of its military contingent in Lebanon by the end of the year, Defense Minister Pedro Morenes said Tuesday, justifying the decision partly on budget cuts demanded by the country’s economic crisis.

Akko Harbor from Second Temple Period Unearthed

The 2,300 year old harbor was the largest in the country during Hellenistic period, & may have been military as well.

A magnificent ancient harbor – considered the largest and most important in the Land of Israel in the Hellenistic period – has been unearthed in Akko (Acre). The harbor dates back 2,300 years, to the time in which the Second Temple stood in all of its magnificence in Jerusalem.

Among the finds at the harbor are large mooring stones that were incorporated in the quay, which were used to secure sailing vessels. This was probably a military harbor. Continue Reading »

Israel’s Rafael unveils new USV for Israel Navy – the Protector

The ‘Protector’ is equipped with a 360-degree cameras & water cannons; ship designed to support maritime security.

 

It is fast, small and unmanned and soon, the Navy’s Protector ship will also be non-lethal.Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Protector unmanned surface vehicle (USV) was designed to support maritime security, mostly for border patrols and port security.

Based on a small speedboat, the ship was deployed by the Israel Navy a number of years ago off the Gaza coast.

Earlier this month, Rafael unveiled a new version of the USV that is longer, faster, more reliable and comes with a high pressure water hose attached for non-lethal mission.
